Warren,
You did a lot of the same things I did to save on utility bills. When I built my house in 1976 I had double insulation put in the walls and attic, and even the garage. I have double pane windows and the sliding glass door is filled with argon gas. Then I have the vinyl siding with 3/4th inch insulation under it. Also I had my old hot water heater replaced a few years ago with a new one that is supposed to use less power and is better insulated. My house is all electric, and even on our coldest or hottest days, my electric bill isn't any more than my friends electric and gas bill when he adds them together. My house is a pier and beam type with crawl space under it so I have a dead air insulation there and the one record cold Winter we had here many years ago, I was the only house in this area that had running water as all the others had pipes freeze and then they burst. But as they keep increasing the rates on everything I have about reached the point of it not being feasible for me to spend more to try to save a few cents.
