Almost all Cobras exceed the legal decibel levels in Ca. and none of us run a front plate. Five of us in NorCal got stopped 2 weeks ago in the National Forrest above Sacramento and the Ranger started to cite all of us. We got out of it but there was a reason which I won’t go into.
Many cities and the state would like to put all these cars on tow truck for registration violations. A car will be towed and stored after being out of registration for 6 months. If that happens, you WILL NOT get your car out of impound until corrections are made. It could take months! Don't take any chances. Your cries won’t be heard.
Tom,

I was under the impression that all safety equipment requirements need to meet the year the car is modeled after (i.e. 1965). For example, for the brake and safety inspection, a back-up light is not a requirement and sidepipes were a standard option at the time. So you go throug a CHP inspection, take your car to the BAR, you do a brake/light/safety inspection, and your car is technically illegal on CA roads??

Also, I have never heard of a car being impounded for a "fix it" ticket unless you have other outstanding violations. If I get tagged for no front plate, I'll hang one on the car. If I get a fix it ticket for loud pipes, I'll get it signed off.
