I got the mesh from Melwire - melwire.com.au. With hindsight I would have got a thicker gauge. They will sell and post small amounts and are good to deal with.
I laid down a rim of fibreglass about 25mm wide x 2mm thk on each side of the mesh to keep it plane and aid fixing.
I used 20 x 20mm aluminium angle facetted to fit the inside of the body fibreglass and fixed it with Sikaflex. Grille is fixed with self tappers to the ally. See diagram below.
On my car I have an air conditioning radiator in front of my engine radiator, this means both have to be removed before the grille can be removed, which is a pain.
I have it in mind to replace this grille with one made from horizontal chromed bars but I haven't started on this yet.
