I used the Second Strike calculator and it called for a rather large area filter which wouldn't fit under my hood with the 1" spacer on the carb. So, I tried something a bit smaller in area but that would fit under the hood. We dynoed the car (my FE is 496 c.i.) and it developed the most power (both HP and TQ) with the AC vs no AC. So, I would say that the calculator is a good starting place, but not necessarily the absolute answer. Put the car on a dyno and do some experimenting.
The AC is from Billet Specialties and I now have a K&N filter in it vs. the paper one shown in the photo.
