Today was the day!
We have had two days above 40 degrees, so I was finally able to open the garage door and trouble shoot a no start issue. Turned out to be the idle mixture screws on the carb.
So, I let it warm up in the garage, and slowly exit to my very long driveway. I give it some gas and go into second, and then realize I am coming up on the end of the driveway a bit fast, step on the brakes, and whoops, the not broken in pads take a bit more time to bring the car to a stop then I expected.
I came very close to the end of the driveway.
I then let the car idle for a bit, and went up and down the driveway a few times, got all the fluids up to temperature. So, at this point I am feeling pretty good.
When I finally decided to put the car away, I shut down the motor only to hear a slight waterfall coming from the engine compartment. Turned out that the 3/4 inch tube from the expansion tank had a hose clamp that was not cinched all the way. The underside of the hood and various components in the engine compartment needed an immediate towel off. Also, to and to the joy, I found a little bit of
oil by the nose of the car, turns out the
oil cooler lines were a bit loose. Now, mind you, I had run in the motor for 1/2 an hour before and did not see any of these problems. Thankfully, I did not go farther than the driveway and was able to fix the leaks quickly. Next step is to dial in the carb.
So at the end of the day I am happy that the car started, moved under its own power, stopped (or at least reduced its speed) and decided to mark its spot in the garage.
I am attaching two pictures taken with my camera phone from the top of the driveway.
