There is plenty of guys who have done the mod themselves and its quite possible for someone with some basic engineering ability.

There was a thread dedicated to this sometime back which might be worth searching for.

In my view after the mod when the shifter is moved forward this improves the shifting movement greatly as it no longer goes thru a linkage system therefore
shortening the shift distances and creating its own quickshift movement.
