Steve,
I just got the paper and the whole front page is about the water shortage. One district just about 14 miles East of here is cutting their supply to rural and residential customers by 67%. Others are going to put huge surcharges on anything above a set amount, yet to be determined. The Governor stated that mandatory rationing is an option and will be used if people don't cut back on their own. Agriculture losses could reach $2.8 Billion this year and cost 95,000 jobs. This is the worst it has been since 1992. Although our rain and snow pack are at about 80% of normal now, it would take 125 to 140% just to get us to the break even mark. Our city gets its water from Shasta Lake which the state has no say over as it is Federal. But everyone is going to have to cut back regardless of who owns the water. There won't be nearly enough to send on down South for the farmers to water crops so they are going to let thousands of acres just set.
