Thanks for the feedback. I have since got more information from ERA as to what tires will fit the wheel well. I have also talked to tire manufacturers and Compomotive. Everybody has been very helpful, and at this point I believe there are possibilities for my 16 inch wheels with either Hoosiers or Coopers.
The front is easy: a whole bunch of manufacturers have tires that will fit. It is the rear that is the issue with the bigger tires. I will post again once I have the tires on and tested. I am New York so that might take a while pending the weather.
