After much swearing, I got my dowel pins out of the block yesterday. Using a tungsten carbide grinding bit, I ground flat spots into them and twisted them out with a large pair of channel lock pliers.

The real question is why do the aftermarket block suppliers even use these short, useless pins in the first place? It would make way more sense to supply the blocks pin free!
