It could have blown the head gasket between cylinders 1 & 2 and not show any water/
oil cross contamination.
Hence no compression in adjacent cylinders.
Put cylinder 1 on the compression stroke and fill the cylinder with air via a leakdown tester, you'll probably hear air out of cylinder 2.
