The louvers would be facing toward the motor. However those db ratings do not say much because is it test at idle if not what RPM.

At idle it is low and deep, as an example I started the motor up at 9:00pm and I felt comfortable that my neighbors would not complain. But drive away and reach 2500-3000 rpm that a different story. And no matter what side pipe you have anything after 3000 will be loud
