Now that we know what your manifold is, we can probably make more sense out of it.

The Vic. JR. is a single plane manifold, unlike the "Air Gap" manifold, which is a dual plane. The Vic. Jr. , being single plane and higher rise runners, needs more velocity or RPM to wake it up, so performance will be weak below about 2500-3000 RPM or so. For your purposes, with that cam, the Edelbrock Air Gap, Weiand Stealth, or Edelbrock RPM will work great for you.

Give some serious thought to getting a good dyno tune once the carb/manifold issues are worked out. If you find someone who knows what he is doing, it will be worth your time and money I'm quite sure...
