Guys, Thank you all very much. I have been reading these posts all day as I have been working on the car and chasing parts hither and yon (yawn)! I replaced the pump and the tank twice! The wrecking yard gave me a tank with four locking lugs that hold sending unit and pump in and my old tank had three. Of course I didn't notice until I had cleaned it up inside and out and had put the pump in... Oops! No big I thought I'll just get the other style locking rings... Right! None of the Ford dealers carry them, the wrecker didn't have them but offered to pull a tank from a car in the yard while I wait. OK, tanks I'll wait. Hour and a half later the guy comes in and tells me that the tank had the same rings I already had, but I can have the whole tank, Cool! I traded and they took my old tank so I didn't have to deal with it, The replacment tank was real dirty on the out side only and Looked like it had pretty fresh gas in it. A quick cleaning and flush And I was back where I was only 3 hours erlier!
There is never anything easy with custom cars... except spending money and time! Why are they so much fun any way.
Got it all buttoned up tonight and went to the gas station for about three gallons, just in case, then a test ride for about an hour and a half. So far it runs better than it has since I have owned it and no leaks, time for a full tank!
The grommet on all three tanks either tore split or crumbled when I took them out of the tanks, the good news was Folsom Lake Ford sell them for only $28.xx Pls tax. 30 something for that and the seal for the sending unit, The new pump came with it's own seal. The filler neck grommet is a MUST CHANGE if the filler neck comes out, it's not worth the risk.
Again, thanks to all, I think This got it.
