I agree. Hooking has always been the problem. A rolling launch is not much help either, you will go right through the tires unless you have great feel and experience with the car.
The aero is an interesting point. I've found it helps Vettes to 'maintain' a distance once past 100 MPH but the initial ground lost to the Cobra is not made up.
I did get burned by a Vortec-blown Vette with drag radials, couldn't leave on him with me on Hoosiers and he pulled very hard mid range on up.
