Niles, I just went through the same thing but with a Mcleod Scatter shield. The side that will make the fork closer to the shaft is how mine went.Flat side to inside near input shaft. I also needed to fabricate a 3/4" spacer to raise the pivot higher off the plate mount. The pivot has a rectangle hole in it to accomodate the spring clip right? Also what fork are using. I understand that the forks that are used with a clutch cable are different then the mechanical ones. If all else fails contact George at Gessford machine. He really knows his stuff. He sent me mine and it all bolted in fine. He also helped me clear up a starter shim problem that I had to install with that bellhousing. It needed to have a 5/16" spacer between the starter and housing. Don't know if you will need one or not.
