Mike, plan your wiring installation so if you must get to connections later on, ...it's easy. Think about if you have to pull the engine or do some other work later on, make it accessable.
Some folks like to hide everything so you don't see any wiring, but went with the idea that wiring should be easy to get at after the car is done. The firewall is a great place for the relay.
