The answer to your initial question is the T-Bird SC drivetrain would work fine. There are more and more unconventional drive trains showing up all the time. So, go for it if that is the track you choose.

If on the other hand, you can swing the purchase of a used Cobra....the market is flooded with nice cars. Look at that carefully unless you just have to build your own. Trust me, there will be plenty to do to satisfy your itch to build if you buy a used one. Remember, a Cobra is NEVER finished!!!!!
