It sounds like you may need to change the gear ratio in the rear-end also. I have had 3:55 and 3:73's they will both make 5th gear more useable.

The 3:73's will make 1st gear really short.

You may want to give Gordon Levy a call, I think he has a few options to upgrade your transmission.
