I'm guessing you have a very high, numerically low rear end. To verify..

Mark the tire and drive shaft. count the revolutions the drive shaft makes for one revolution of the tire. This will give you the ratio. 3 1/2 turns is a 3.27 rear, 3 and 1/2 turns 3.50 etc.

Once you know this and the tranny gearing you can then decide what you need to work on.
