Default Rear end fitment

One of the issues I have always had is that the rear wheels on my car stick out a bit too far. Grinding the wheels has always been an option for about 800 bucks.. Ouch. Narrowing the rear seems a better way to go .. I currently have a 93 Mustang Gt 8.8 in the rear. According to my research it is 59.25 wide. I need to knock off about an inch on each side. I was told that that the Ranger 8.8 is 57" wide. Does anyone know if the ranger rear will drop into the CRII??

Alternately I am looking at having a custom 9" rear made by a company in Sacramento.
