There are a couple of things that could be contributing to your problem. The first is the design of the pedal itself. I've noted more than one type on different SPF cars. Some of the gas pedals sit almost flush to the pedal arm extending down from the linkage shaft, on others, the pedal arm comes down and extends forward several inches so the gas pedal is even with the brake pedal. I don't know if the difference is due to a running change on the cars, an option for short people, or possibly an optional pedal to accomodate heel and toe driving at the track. I'm sure a call to Dennis Olthoff could solve that mystery.

I'm 6'2" tall and the guy I bought SPO2261 from was probably only 5'6". He may have had the extended gas pedal for his comfort (the clutch and brake pedals were adjusted fully forward too and he still had to slide the seat forward), but my pedal was about even with the brake pedal. I removed the pedal from the car and used my SAWZALL to cut the pedal off the arm, leaving about 1" of the arm on the back of the pedal. Then I cut 2.5" more off the horizontal portion of the arm and bolted the pedal back onto the end of the arm. I also adjusted my clutch and brake pedals to their furthest back position. Now I can drive the car with my legs under the steering wheel instead of beside it.

The other possible contributing factor could be your linkage adjustment. Your pedal should have a positive stop, like the floor, and it should NOT be when the carb hits WOT. Allowing the carbs WOT position be the pedal limit can lead to carb linkage damage and potentially to the carb sticking at WOT. To adjust, disconnect the linkage from the carb, push the gas pedal to the floor, adjust the carb linkage length so the carb is just at WOT. Make sure everything operates smoothly.
