Default Old engine questions

Folks,
First, thanks for the welcome, I appreciate it!

I'm looking to pick up an engine lift and stand, and I need to know- what's a typical weight of a 302 freshly pulled from a doner?
Also, what's the best way to clean up that freshly pulled old dirty engine (manifold, covers, block, pan, various alum parts, etc.) so it sparkles like new and is then befitting of my "pending" build? (Assume a comprehensive overhaul, so everything's coming off.) I'm sure there are pro shops that will do a bangup job, but what about the more economical DIY method?
Thanks!
Art

Art,check out Harbor Freight for the stand and lift or buy used;these items do not need to be the best as when you are finished they are just in the way.I would find someone to steam clean the motor first ,then take home and disassemble. This will get rid of the worst grime without messing up your driveway and should only cost 20 -30 dollars.chuck

also the weight of the 302 should be around 300 lbs no problem for a 1 ton lift. chuck

Art I assume you have a donor car that you will pull stuff from. If that's the case and it runs why not start with the car wash down in Jasper. Drive it down, spray it with a couple of cans of Gunk and blast away.

Art what works for me I put a add in the local classified (The Nickel) then do the same to same rid when I am done about the clean procession after the motor is out on the stand set the hole thing on a old blanket (don't have to clean up the grease spots)I liberated from the wife and go at it with a couple cans of Gunk and a stiff brush.Don't forget the eye protection.
Best of luck on the project Ken
