Fuel Guage Problem? Please Help!

I use Smith gauges in my car and the fuel gauge reads 3/4 with a full tank. Obviously, that means when at about 1/4 tank I read 0/empty and have premature fill-ups. This is not a big deal around town but on extended cruises with gas up a little less convenient and assessable it can become a nuisance.

The tank in my car is a'68 Camaro's and I'm not sure exactly what sender it uses. If you have any other questions I'll try to find the answers. Thanks for your help!

Tony I belive that the guage and the sender is not seen the same Ohm reading I belive the Camaro's sending is 0-90 don't know what the Smith's are but maybe 0-30 ?? there for would give a incorect reading.
If you can't get a Smith guage with the same reading might try this. Back in 01 when playing with hotrods if the guage read to mutch we put a resistor in line to make the guage read closer.

I think Junket is right about Chevy being 0-90 ohm - Most Cobra replicas with Smiths are set up for the Mustangs around 1990. Their range is 16 empty to 168 ohm full.. If right, actual full would be between 1/2 and 3/4 on guage, while empty tank would be below empty on the guage. Nisonger, here:

Ask for Woody at Nisonger. Great guy--he'll know. I actually had the same problem with the SPF and it was actually the seinder arm that needed bending in that case. I just used the odometer as my guage. Never went over a 100 miles without a fill up.

Thanks guys! The strangest thing happend today
when I filled up - the gauge read FULL. I let it go down a little further than I have since getting the car back on the road and maybe that is all it needed. Looks like my reading is fine now. Thanks again fella's.
