Default Who Do You Have Insurance With?

Would like companies and local agent recs. I am with USAA with regular cars but they would not Iinsure the Cobra. Cobra rep with one company now but I will add a car soon and my present Cobra insurer is not too hot about adding it. Was with State Farm for 20 years and they insured any car I had, but went to USAA after getting married. All rec woud be appreciated. chip in Atlanta

I'm with State Farm, BUT, I think the only reason they keep me on as I have been a long time customer and have 3x the number of vehichles insured as drivers, so they realize I cannot be in them all at once.

What's insurance?

Just kidding. I use Auto Owners, but I am a little liberal in my descriptions to them however on the "kit" stuff. I try to self insure as much as I can at the end of the day for that and use them for the big stuff. I must say that this is a topic that can vary very much by individual. The minute I bought commercial real estate, my insurance picture changed considerably.

Default USAA and American Collector's Ins

USAA works with American Collector. They insured mine over the phone-$346/yr. Just tell the USAA rep what you have and they'll connect you with A.C.

Default One Beacon Insurance

I was able to get full coverage from my regular carrier. The car is titled as 65 Shelby Cobra. I have scheduled an appraisal to document the car.

I contacted USAA when I first bought the Cobra replica in 2001 and they referred me to American Collectors (NJ?). They refused to insure it when they found it was a "kit" car . Did find out that it was assembled by the Unique factory (AL). Will try again. In the meantime, keep the suggestions comming. cb

I hate insurance, I can't stand paying for something twice.
First you pay the insurance agency's building, property, payroll,
taxes, profits and everything else a business pays for. And then
you have to pay for the repair shops expences or the doctors
business expences. I hate insurance. I said the didn't I.

I have American Hobbyist also.

Recently applied to raise mileage limit. I hate mileage limits and may change companies. It's a CAR.... something you DRIVE...

Does American Hobbyist limit miles??

chill ... dunno how they treated you about your mileage, but they accused me of wanting to drive mine too much! - and accused me of wanting to drive it to work. They called me 3 times about my mileage preference. Only after I got pissed .. and pointed out what I do for a living (which is listed on the application) .. did they finally leave me alone.

IOW - I don't recommend them .. and soley based on their lack of tact in the customer service dept.

Have USAA insurance on all cars including Cobra. Why did USAA turn you down? When I added Cobra to policy in '95, ('66 Shelby Cobra Replica), USAA acted like it was no big deal. "Just another car."

They did want to know the factory rated HP of the engine. Back when one could purchase cars off the showroom floor with over 300 HP, a high performance premium was charged by insurance companies. (Remember when factory muscle cars suddenly dropped to 295 HP? That's why.)

Anyway, my Ford 351W truck and boat motor was rated at 195 HP. And USAA was happy with that.
