I'm planning on bringing my 6 cylinder Powered Cobra to Commerce also.

Bob - I forgot about you! In talking with Grimes about those "small" v-6's I think I might try to install one in my '76 2002 BMW. It weighs @ 1900 lbs. and can be upgraded fairly easily to handle the extra power.Garry mentioned he might be building you an alluminum version this winter - any truth to that? What tranny do you run in your car?

TC - C'mon man, I'm gonna need some help here (there)!

I talked to Gary about the new aluminum version of the Buick V6. Actually I'm going to wait for a year or so as they are bringing out a "Stroker" version of the motor that would get it up to 302 cubic inches from my 274. The nice thing (besides it being a "big block" is it weighs 88 lbs vs my 143 lbs. My motor's block is about 20lbs heavier than a small block Chevy but its very strong.

Anyway, the car did well at Run & Gun and took 1st in both the Quick 8 and Bracket which isn't bad for a REALLY small block

As far as the Tranny goes its a Tremec 5 speed with a Moser 9" Ford rear.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and the other Cobra owners from the Atlanta area.

Sorry I forgot about you Bob I look forward to meeting you and checking out that 6 banger. Looks as if we will be the only SB running. I think the ACC has turned into Chills I mean waxers.

John Owen have you got that beast ready ? Cracker don't forget the liquids - and I'm not talking about something to drink Wonder if Grimes will swap that BB of yours for a 6 pack.

Hope this beautiful weather holds out.

So Randy, did you get the car back? I'll probably run down there on Friday to pick up a new oil pan. Before I go, I'll check my oil adapter and make sure it's tight. I hear you can lose oil pressure if you're not careful.

Cobra's fixed and wife's given the nod - I'm planning to head up on Friday pending the beautiful weather hanging around a bit longer.

I read through the threads on helmets - what's the "style" of helmet required? I got a couple DOT motorcycle helmets I could bring, but they're 1/2 helmets without a face shield. I assume the requirement is full face helmet, but thought to ask.

Jason, motorcycle helmets are designed differently and graded diferently than auto racing helmets. Not sure of the drag rules, but you may want to check.

If I go, it will be with a heavy small block.

One thing I've learned the hard way, nothing on these cars stays tight for very long regardless of who puts it on. Now that my motor is covered with expensive shiny bolts, I guess I'll have to be a bit more attentive.

GS - I'm screwed since my visits only entail comments breathed within museums whereas you have to wash your hands at the end. However, TC don't forget that painful episode of half instructions GS gave you. On one hand you’ve' developed insanely strong forearms but for what use.... Darn, so there is a use - GS you win!

GS - my worst nightmare is coming back after my first run and having the officals tell me I don't have to wear a helmut this time!

I still plan to be there if the weather is good. Tony R - that is a really limp excuse - when I got my last Kawasaki (ZX12R) I hit I285 and did not stop till the required miles were done. Do it and you can stop by my house for a free oil change and try the quarter with the rest of the crew. Johan - how much encouragement do you need to bring something - cup car is fine. TC - anything will do, if you need help with the recycled beer can to get it ready, let me know.

"recycled beer can" Good John - for some reason that doesn't sound like you. GS - are you body snatching again?

Ditto to Tony R. - Drive around I285 like JO said. Heck, you'll probably rack up enought miles just going to car shows.

JO - Good news, after fixing the throttle linkage I now have full throttle and can once again spin tires in 2nd despite the "grippy" stuff.

The small block is my new weapon that will debut at Commerence. HOWEVER need some used ("shaved") ires for the back toket the power to the ground. Has a lowere rear end ratio and breaks the tires loos even under moderate excelertion: Stay tuned.... cb

SAFTEY LECTURE: Snell Foundation Rating: named after a guy (Snell) who was killed 35 plus years ago beacuse of a defective helmet

"M" rating minimum for motorsports,"SA" better because of better fire resistance (for example an enclosed car). SOme track events (SCCA?) require a SA rating. Also Snell reting by year : Snell 2000 etc. Helmut usually only good for 5 years with out an impact incident.

Helmuets are made to rupture to dissapate the energy and be destryed in the process.

Hav heard tell where cheap helmets actully CONTRIBUTE to injry bu craing on impact and pitching the head.

Full Coverage: Remember Dale Earnhardt: Face went into the interior of the vehicle (see harnesses below). No 'half helmets: they leave the base of the skull exposed.

Cheap neck brace is better than nothin: HANS device better. Keeps the head from flying foward doing aighspinal chord injury.

Head rests: Same thing: keeps head from flying backwards.

Harnesses> Through bolted tothe frame with grade 8 olts and BIG washers.

1 HArnesses should be replaced every 5 years, partic in an open car: Ultra violet light deterioates them.

And accident stretches them (supposed to to dissapate energy) but runins them in the process. Also don't run too long of a course: the may stretch and allow you to impact some part of the vehcle (wheel, dash board etc)

Finally, minimum of a five point harness, six point better. crotch straps type the harness together and keep you from "submarining" under the belts.

And no "Y"" belts, you need two shouder harness attachment points to hold you in place, partic again side forces(cornering or going off course)

Above is more for road racing but just as important on the road and important on the drag strip.

Hope I can get all of the above done on the new project. Already done on the old projects.

ps: helmet, not helmut: Helmut was my boss at Siemens Medical (makers of CT and MRI to see those injuries)

I am planning to attend. Been the only one with a 302, I should be given a decent handicap

Let's pray to the weather gods for a continuation of this great weather. Keep in mind that its getting darker much sooner now. If we are going to meet someplace to ride in together, we should plan ahead.
