Cracker my best was a 13.472
Chill 13.2 ? I think

Based on my 60', 330' and 1/8 times all I need to get into the 12's is a carburator or fuel injection and maybe a little 3rd gear traction.

Cracker, you always went in the left lane, so not many pictures of you. Even though I only made three full runs it was great fun, but doubt I can go back without a top. It was just beginning to feel good on the last run, when thay invited me to leave, On that trip the MPH was 126.91 and a reaction time of .521. Guess I will have to fix the top problem and get better tires.

JO - I know because I'm on the same time slip. Everyone without slicks had problems with traction that I spoke to. Both you & Joel were able to really get your MPH up high on the second half of the track. Good job to all.

Hey Cracker - Just for fun I took the times that I know of and figured the averages. Go figure

BB 12.96 (Average 451 CI)

SB 12.52 (Average 373 CI)

Lower is better isn't it

Looks like the small penis guys win again, remember it's how you use it not how big it is

BB 12.96 (Average 451 CI) The only way this works out is either I'm missing a BB or Jason ran 14.56.? I heard he was around most of the SB's in the 13's.

SB 12.52 (Average 373 CI) Now figure SB cubes. My guess is it over 390.

SSB 274 Even including this anomaly the outcome should still not be in question.



GS - I like your math - if I were a small block guy. Seriously, I am filling in the times on my post on the previous page as they are reported and maybe I miss categorized a car but I only identified 3 BB cars two of which times are known. Whose BB times are you referring to? Between JO & mine our average is 12.21 and I'm waiting to here from Jason (patrija). I heard he was in the 13's.

I'd also like to come to a total group average but need TIMES.

GS - You got to love the odd SB factored in. Where did you get those BB times since both known times I'm aware of are well below your average?

Sorry to be so late on thanking the group for inviting me to the meet.

It was great to see a bunch of really nice cars. I'm sorry that I left early but here is what happened. Not necessarily in order...

First, I was trying a new tire combination out on my car for the 1st time. It didn't work well. I went from 26" tall tires to 28's and the car was really "spooky" in 3rd and 4th gear. I thought they would help the launch but as you all know the track was VERY slippery. 60' times were way off. But that's OK as you take it as it comes, right?

Then on the last run I (think) I kicked a pebble up into the right front brake rotor and it lodged against the caliper and sheared a grade 8 socket bolt. As I pulled into the timing shack on the return I couldn't use my brakes as the caliper would rotate and lock the right front wheel. As soon as I let off the brakes it was OK again. So when the guy handed me my timing slip he told me "You can't race here without a cage". I thought that had been covered before we left but it really didn't make any difference as I had to fix the caliper and didn't have the tools to do it.

Most of you were out racing so I put the car in the trailer and since its a LONG way to Fayetteville I figured I'd take off early.

The GOOD news is I was talking to Paul Smith (Corvette) and he gave me a good idea to cure the high speed handling problem (with the taller slicks). He'd had the exact same problem and it came down to not running my 17" BFG KD's with the slicks. I need to get a set of bias ply fronts to go with the bias ply slicks. I believe, from his description that it will fix things up. It would be a LOT more fun if the car went straight instead of snaking its way down the track. (Althought I guess for a Cobra that's natural

Jo 521 ci, Cracker 427 ci, Jason 406 equals 1354 - now divide by 3 -equals 451 ci.

Justa6 11.3, Joel 12.2, GS 13.4, Chill 13.2 equals 50.1 - now divide by 4 - equals 12.52

Justa6 247 ci (?), Joel 454 ci (?), GS 396 ci, Chill 396 ci equals 1493 ci - now divide by 4 equals 373 ci

Perfect Math

But if you really wanna declare it to the BB's it's OK We can handle it

My apologies to you Bob because I was the one who relayed that tech requirements had been "relaxed" per my feedback. I'm sorry to hear about your car but I can guarantee you that there are some guys happy to see you run that hot "little" thing!

For all who don't know this is all in fun in victory & defeat - it's kind of like sibling rivalry. Big Brother against Small brother.

GS - That's ok, I was told that Jason's BEST time was in the 13's but if you know it wasn't and it was 14.5 all I can say is that SA should be dissapointed .

I also like the averages to reflect ALL BB & SB participants and that clearly hasn't been done but as for NOW I will temporarily declare SB's unofficial winners.

After we have all the results we can through out high's, lows etc. to come up with a more accurate picture of the real difference. Thank goodness Bob doen't run 7's I could only imagine what SB's average claim would be then.

Joel's car by the way is 383 ci. for your SB V-8 calculations.

It's all fun and even accept defeat to YOU in an earlier post - I did

BB - SB who cares - I had a blast and enjoyed watching all. Jason was having fits with his shifter hence his higher than expected times. We need to do it again

GS - I agree. I still want to figure all normally running/sorted times so we can have an overall realistic average regardless of engine type size. my guess is it would be in the high 12's but we'll see.

I don't know about everyone else who hasn't done this before but I learned a lot. I also have to admit it was harder than I thought it was going to be to get hooked up and with clean starts.

Bob had mentioned Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds as they are a little less stringent regarding tech.

If anyone knows what constitutes a five-point rollcage? Is that five points to the car or within the cage itself? How many extra points needs to be added to the current Cobra rear brace rollbar?

What a fun night! Althought I arrived late and didn't get to see some of the earlier runs, that was one of the best times I've had in a while.

All in all, I think it's clear that traction trumps hp on the strip, at least with our bunch of Cobras. Justa6, I was looking forward to seeing your car and watching it run, but I guess that's what I get for arriving late.

I'm already looking for some wider or stickier tires; however, going wider than 275/50s on 16" wheels is proving to be a challenge.

Although I think we were all disappointed with our times and speeds, compared to the other very stout street cars running that night (Roush Mustang, Saleen Mustang, Z06 Vette, Mitsu Evos, turbo or supercharged M3), we were significantly quicker and faster.

I'm looking forward to our next event - maybe a dyno day? Toy Collector, I think we're all looking forward to seeing what Parham's "masterbeast" will do.

BTW, John, thanks for posting pictures.

Just got done reading the latest and you guys are right. The object is to have some fun with folks that share the same interests.

As far as Silver Dollar dragway in Reynolds goes Test and tune they pretty much leave you alone. I've run a lot of 10.8's there and they've never said a word to me other than "welcome". The track is, IMO, much better prepared than Atlanta in that they prep it for Test and tune. I got my best 60' time there and not even Gateway in E. St Louis (Run & Gun) is better prepped.

BUT its a really long way for you guys so I completely understand if you want to go back to Commerce. I probably won't bother as they would ask me to leave again but I'm certainly "up" for other stuff like Autocross or some track time at one of the Road race tracks OR we can just go for a ride...

Needless to say I think you all would LOVE R & G but its not till next September. There are guys there at ALL levels and everyone is "beyond" friendly. VERY good people there.

Again thanks for the invite it was fun...

Hey guys, Jason reporting in. I don't have my slips with me but I did have a total of 4 runs - 1st was in the low 16s (made lots of smoke and lost a lot of rubber on this one), 2d was in the mid 15s (lost cotter pin for 3/4 gear on this run), 3rd was in the 14s, and 4th was in the 15s again. Unfortunately, I never got 3rd gear to grab on any of the runs and was coasting from the 1/8 to the end. I figure that with 3rd (and probably better driver) I'd be in the mid-low 13s...(?). Definitely a great time!!!

PS - I'm off to London tomorrow afternoon for a week (work) and probably won't be on until next weekend.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I can relate as my 1st three runs were nothing more than clearing the plugs. Frustrating! Did the smoke ever go away?

BTW, I'm glad to hear you had problems but only as it relates to your ET.

I think the average of all the runs would be closer to 14 than 12.

Bob where is Reynolds ? Are they open all year and when do they have the tune and run ? I'm hooked and need a fix.

14 was y best of time. Got waivedff on my fourth rn: oil leak! Knew that but they finally caught me.

Excuses: had only 12 miles on the ca (with me in it)and that was around the parking lot there at the strip, had narrow (225) street tires on the rear, car was missing, and I was scared (al true).

Road racing 12/14/03 Taledega Gran Prix, south of Anniston AL. $150/day. Shelby American Auto Club (SAAC) AL chapter. ALL cars welcome. Last meet in july: jus ONE real Shelby and that was a 350GT (Mustang). Everything else: Miaitas, WRX,s SVO Mustags, Honda Cicic four door, stock (really). This could be the Petit Whordheide 100?

SERIOUSLY: May need a drive of acar to/from: will trailer one. 96 miles from Decatur to the track plus a one hour GAIN in time over. cb
