Met a new Cobra owner today ..
Ok .. for those of you who don't know. I'm the Police. Not your typical law dog. I like to "yank a knot" in every teenager I find acting a fool. Wave at the Motorcycle riders. Write tickets to every "Yo-Yo Wassup" who has his stereo audible from 3 blocks away. Otherwise, I leave people alone - unless they call me. Everyone seems to know my phone number
Today .. I was parked on the Main St in the city I work. Chatting with the Bicycle Officer who patrols downtown during certain times. He's all leaned against my patrol car, hanging onto the mirror .. and we're BSing about something non-specific.
All of a sudden .. you hear women start to scream, kids running for cover, small animals keeling over from freight ... as a Silver Cobra comes thumpin down Main St ..
I didn't even say "Bye" to the Bike Cop .. I threw the Crown Vic in gear and take off. Remember: Bike Cop is holding on to the outside mirror .. and he ends up taking a short ride with me across the parking lot until he manages to let go. He catches up later and admires the Cobra up close.
I come up hard behind this Cobra .. and he immediately pulls off the road and starts easing across a parking lot. I figure he's fixing to pull back onto the street, so I zap him with the siren (more women and kids scream and run for cover). The look on his face was kinda funny .. and I'm quickly trying to let him know this isn't a traffic stop, I just want to see the car.
Sometimes it's good to be driving one of these things with lights and sirens
In short .. nice guy. He just bought the car on Saturday and was coming back from the tag office. All fired up about meeting some fellow Cobra owners and makig some of the get-togethers. It's a B&B - Gray Metalic with Black Stripes. Has a 351 .. and he was told it's a windsor, but it sure looked like a Cleveland to me. I could be wrong. Wide motor. We swapped contact info .. and he lives only a short distance from me. Hopefully, next time there's a get-together .. I'll have a riding partner for the road trip.

Bad Bad Cop !!!
Bud, you are a mean man. I bet this poor sole had a 15 pucker factor when he saw you charge up on him
The guy buys the car Saturday, get's his titling crap done on Wednesday and he needs CPR by late the same day thinking that his first experience with his new toy has a ticket attached to it
You definitely must bring him to our next get together so that he can see what a bunch of warped guys make up AC Cobra

Bud,
that sounds just like the one that I'm building here down-under in NZ (for all those who haven't heard of New Zealand - just think Middle Earth - hobbits, wizards, real live walking-talking trees! ;o)
back to the car: same engine and colours... hope the local police are as easy going!!!
I haven't yet had the paint job done and am tossing up between metallic grey & black stripes (like Eleanor, Gone in 60 Seconds) or reeeeeeeally dark metallic green with pearlescent-white racing stripes.
Would be great to see some photos of this guy's car.
Any chance you can pass me the guy's email address? Would love to see some photos.
cheers.
;o)

SVO,
You ever take note of the similarities between the CVPI and a Cobra?
1.Ford
2.sightings guaranteed to slow down traffic flow
3.some people give a thumbs up-while some won't dare look over
4.frequently painted some form of white & blue
5.usually at the center of some sort of commotion
6.ALWAYS gets the right of way at a 4-way intersection
Feel free to add!

I just got his phone number - no email. I'm sure we'll be getting some photos of it in the near future (when the weather warms back up on a regular basis). I told him about this site - hopefully he'll show up soon.
maxrpm .. don't think there's much I can add. But, you've definitely hit the nail on the head. Ok - one more;
7. you don't dare pick your nose in the public view, flip the bird, or whatever while behind the wheel - cause someone is always watching you. And, describing you doesnt take much by way of perception on their part.

Hi Bud,
if you think he'll be ok with it then please send me his phone number. you know what it's like when building: you can't wait until tomorrow to get the tyres - you just gotta have them today - even though you still don't have wheels to put them on!
Doug - I'm in Auckland on the North Shore. Why do you ask - so that Bud can start posting the speeding tickets in anticipation? ;o)
Auckland Cobra base their car on the Lexus chassis (i.e. live rear-end). I managed to get hold of a 351 Cleveland with a C6 'box. If you happen to have a spare alloy block that you were about to throw out let me know... I'll be happy to pay the freight!
y'all have a great weekend!
;o)

15 pucker factor
Hey Rosco Pico Train, I just stumbled across your email from our encounter on the 15th! I have been on the site since that day and made several posts. What a GREAT bunch of Cobra enthusiasts from all over the world! I have gotten tips on everything from mounting those wind wings you mentioned to throttle mounts! I swapped out that 750 Eddlebrock for a 650 Speed Demon and the difference is incredible...you wouldn't have a chance on the race track!
svobud, I have some pics on this website under my name, but need to reduce file size to get more.
I can't wait to get together when it warms up and meet the Georgia gang. You can also reach me at mzhun@hotmail.com
regards,
still puckered up!

MZ - I'm Cracker and welcome to the Atlanta gang. There really are alot of neat cars and more importantly people in our group. Even the COP acts like a normal cobra driver at our outings. I don't know why but it always makes me feel better when ole SVO is bringing up the tale end of our caravan.

Bud....you're way too cool. In my neck of the woods, I get great reactions and great treatment from the fraternal brotherhood of law enforcement. The guys in the Crown Vics and I have had great talks about these cars. It's a mutual admiration society.

Matt !! glad to see you made it over to the ac club area! You're welcome to send me the pics and I can resize them for you and send them back. bud-at-svoca.com
I got switched to Night Shift starting this Friday (oh joy) .. so you won't be seeing me around town much until Summer. I absolutely hate working nights .. feel like a zombie even on your days off. I'm sure my DUI arrests will increase though. "Cowboys" on a Fri-Sat night is like shooting fish in a barrel.
I'll be contacting you once the weather gets back to an acceptable level - and we'll certainly hit the Riverstone Cruise In a few times .. plus some West GA backroads (been scouting a few here and there).
Clay - Most Police appreciate the art of a fine classic automobile/hot rod. I give alot of 'look the other way' for the most part to people driving one. Having fun in a Hot Rod is part of americana, just as long as they're not getting TOO reckless, acting a fool in a school zone, or road-rage rush hour traffic.

Matt,
Welcome to the group. Especially the Kennesaw side of town. Maybe if we get enough of us we can get the Alpharettans to cruise over this way. We do have a hooters in Kennesaw after all.
Hey Bud how about putting a Atlanta Club Cobra sticker on your cruiser so I'll know its you when I go thru Kennesaw.

Ha! I think that might get noticed. Don't know if I'll get switched out of my cruiser because of the shift change, but presently .. I drive one of the B/W CVPI - the one with no unit numbers on the bumpers - the car was wrecked on both ends within a matter of weeks here recently and the unit numbers were never put back on .... and no, I didn't wreck it.
I usually stay up in the Legacy Pk area .. but again, don't know if I'll be staying there once I change shifts.

That is cruel!!! Probably scared the poor guy to death!
I have been constantly amazed by the reaction of the police. While a realize that there is probably a larger then average percentage of police that have a bit of 'motorhead' in them, they have been very............. umm, 'forgiving' in their treatment of the car.
Lets face it, my car is a permanent moving violation. TO loud, no front license plate, grooved slicks for tires (but at least they are DOT legal). Do they pull me over, do they give me dirty looks, nope. Do they ask me to do burn outs, do they want to talk about the car, do they pull along side, give it a good once over and a thumbs up, YOU BET THEY DO! The first time I had an officer ask me to light them up at an intersection I was VERY confused.
