I got to get one of these!
Check out this short video of a GT 40 trying to break the sound barrier on a highway. Hey Bud, you'd have loved seeing this guy!
Holy Crap!

Not even funny. Any one of those other cars going 65-75 could have changed lanes before this idiot ever came into view. At 190+ there is no way he could avoid a collision. If the family he kills is mine he better hope he dies in the crash.

Yeah Tony you bum!
How dare you even post that offensive crap on this site. It is a criminal act for goodness sake - that guy should have been shot!
What if a gasoline tanker had made the lane change? Hundreds could have died I tell you!!!!
Please think before you post in the future.
Pat Buckley
Oh - I'm sorry....you mean you posted it for us to marvel at how fast the car was .....I get it!
After reading Seans post I thought you posted it in order to get a PC opinion on what happened....
Thanks for the link - I enjoyed it. It was pretty obviously a dumb act but EVERYONE KNOWS THAT!!!!! Jeesus.

This video is EXACTLY the reason why I won't buy a GT40. In a closed cockpit, I'll "go stupid", feel invincible and start running triple digits everywhere. In the Cobra with nothing but a chrome roll-bar over my shoulders to protect my melon, I find myself being much more sedate than in any other performance car I've ever driven in. Call it respect, call it "thinking about my family", call it "thinking about the other guy", but unless I can take it to a track, I just don't F around anymore (like I used to). I'm not ready for heaven just yet......
P.S. Yes, I ADORE the GT40s. Awesome cars, awesome lines. Maybe I ought to move near Sears Point and then I'll consider buying one.

GT40 (RF currently) is on my list for the next build. I just want to see 200 mph (on a track or salt flats). I'd be happy with 70 with the crappy roads we have 'round here (pothole autocross).

what can you buy a good GT 40 kit for? Are there any around for less than 50 large?

There are cheapo kits you can get for under $50k, but you get what you pay for. A good one (RF, ERA, the new GT40NA) will probably run you half-again that much, at least.

This is Joe Feinburg's car. He lives near me in Lawrenceville. He was set up to be the CAV dealer for the Atlanta area until their recent demise. It's a beautiful ride (he took best of show at a local show we were in last Sunday). I can tell that the video was not shot in Atlanta because the cars in the slow lane would have been passing him.

That was great. Driving that fast around others is obviously not cool, but it sure is fun to watch!
Thanks for the link!

I'd go for the Daytona, mostly because of the scarsity of proper transmissions for the GT40. You can put a toploader, or a C4, or a beefed up AOD into a Daytona.
I'm still debating my Daytona vs "Slabbie" priorities, myself.

uuhhh .... I don't think the Intrepid PI will catch that one. It tops out around 140mph.
I saw Joseph's car in person a few weeks ago. The attention to detail was absolute. Very nice car. He might want to slow it down a bit though.
Tony - looked like South Carolina to me .. everyone in the right lane? Definitely not Georgia.

Dave-
Click on Holy Crap and it takes you to another webpage. On the webpage that opens, there is a similarly named link that you click on and it takes you to the video.

Looks like fun to me, but I have just a bit of skeptisism.
At the beginning of the video, the speedo says just under 120, but it doesn't appear that he is passing that truck very fast. Is that truck doing 90? And then at the end, the speedo says almost 190, but again when he passes the car (which we assume is going 70), it just doesn't look like he's actually going that fast.
Especially with the powertrain that is in that particular car (FRPP347). Takes a lot of HP to hit 200.
It may be just the video, but I think a speedo-gear calibration might be in order...
