Engine installed!
It's alive! I just drove the new motor for the first time, it feels great! There's a huge amount of torque available just babying it in break-in mode. It's very hard to resist putting my foot in it. One pleasant surprise has been the feel of the steering after going to an aluminum block, it's actually noticably lighter. The BG carb seems to work pretty well right out of the box. My wife says the car is louder and there's now no way I can leave the house early morning. She also says the exhaust sounds like bombs or fireworks which I take as a great compliment. Well, back to the road testing!

Congrats Mike now bring it to one of events.
Randy
TC should be ready now that he got his clutch working right. Those BB's sure do sound wicked now if they could only keep up with the SB's
TC 42 gallons right !

Mike, many congrats on the install and 1st ride. Shake her down well and check for:
1. More than 2 gallons of gas in the tank. (Yours truly was so happy today driving, even though I swore my 1st checklist item was to go get gas, I zipped by house for like the 3rd time shaking down the clutch setup.) I got to meet some of my distant neighbors as I sputtered to a stop in front of their house. Thanks to Georgiasnake for bailing me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Check for leaks. I may have a oil filter/filter housing mismatch and that is next on my list.
3. Put an egg under the pedal. I am fighting the same urge and it is tough!!

The egg will just result in a mess - stick your foot in it - that blast will will keep your foot where it belongs.
TC - cool neighbors huh - we should have charged them for the pictures they took - did you see their smiles - gearheads - my kind of folks. Next time I'm over I may swing up and give them all rides.
Randy

TC, I know what you mean about oil filter leaks. When I put the new motor in I ordered a bunch of Viton O-rings to use on the filter adapter on the block, it used to have a square cross section seal like on a filter and leaked a little. I'm going to see if I can use the same O-rings on the filter itself.

I'd love to hear more about these O-rings and where you got them, and if you use them how they work. thx.

Here's the scoop:
Dart aluminum block 4.125 bore
Eagle 4340 crank 4. stroke
Eagle 6.2 H-beam rods
JE pistons (10.8:1 actual)
AFR 205 heads
custom Comp Cams hydraulic roller 240/244 @.05
Titanium valves and retainers
(Titanium shaft rockers in process)
Comp beehive valve springs (a new part for Fords not yet in catalog)
Victor jr
BG mighty demon 850
MSD dist and 6AL
This would also make a good motor for a Kirkham hybrid, hmm...
TC, the O-rings for the oil filter adapter that mine used are a #230 for the large one and #122 for the groove where the bolt goes. They are the Viton material which is what to use around warm motor oil. I got them from McMaster Carr (Industrial supplies) part# 9464K86 for a 50 pak of #122 and #9464K239 for a 10 pak of the #230's
I'll try one on the filter itself later this week and let you know how it works.

Mike, first you offer to let me use your spinner removal tool, now you offer to let me use your engine. I'll take it! Thanks!
Will you install it for me?
For this generous offer, I bestow upon you honarary membership in ACE . The club charter prohibits any other "real" members other than myself.
On a side note, who built it? Who installed it?
Jim

Jim, I got the block and rotating stuff from Keith Craft, they did the machine work and balancing. I did the assembly and installation. I used Dynosim to sort out the valve timing and other components and have been machining stuff like brackets.
If you were hoping there was an expert builder and installer in the area you hadn't heard of, sorry but there is NOT. :-)
