Default Riverstone cruise

The Riverstone cruise every 3rd saturday of the month is back on after much controversy over mall managements fees. This saturday April 17th is the first of the year. If there are some of us that would like to enter as a group then I suggest we meet again at the Quick Trip off I-575 at exit 11 about 4PM.

Hey Ed,

Atlanta Dragway in Commerce is hosting the Fun Ford Weekend this weekend. They will be running track events, a Ford-powered car show and will have some vendors. I'm planning on attending the Saturday events. It's supposed to be a nice day. I'm detailed and ready!

Hey TC - if your boat sinks and you're shark bait can I have your Kirkham? I'd ask for Alex's car but I've never seen him driving anything but a German thing and talking about them British thingie's! Have fun you two and don't fall out.

Hey guys, I would like to bring my car but I am having a bad time trying to understand the readings I am gettting for timing the car.

I have a 351W with an MSD 6 AL and the Ford duraspark distributor. The spec sheet from Ford, where I got the crate engine says the initial timing should be about 8 to 10 degrees and total should ba about 36 degrees at full advance (around 3000 rpm).
I set it up where it runs pretty good and check with the light and the initial is way lower than 8-10. I get to 8 to 10 at about 1600 rpm and can never get the total even close to 36. When I try to adjust the distrib. to compensate the car really runs poorly.

I thought I might have a bad light so I swapped that out and go the the same results. I got some advice that maybe the MSD 6al doesn't like the ford duraspark, so I borrowed FattyBri's new MSD distrib. and got the same results.

The engine was supposed run at Ford, but could they have installed the wrong balancer or timing tab? I am out of ideas and I really don't want to run the car and put the new motor at risk.

Anybody want a few beers to come by and take a look. It's probably something very simple, I just can't see it.

Thanks

Hey John Owens, Thanks for the call. I managed to get a good picture after you and I spoke. I pay my debts. When I meet you in person I'll buy the beer. Thanks...

Hey David, did you ever figure out that timing? The goofball that built my engine didn't even install a timing tab so I time it by sound and feal. I also have Klevin Jones who owns Flag Auto work on it who adjusts timing the same way. Basically, I get it so far advanced that it backfires under hard decell and back it off a couple of degrees...runs like a champ. According to my cam specs, 244 duration at .050 I should be between 20-22 degrees, but am not sure. BTW, are you usin manual or vac secondary?

mzhun,
Thanks. Yes I actually took a tip from John Owens and was able to get things pretty close. I'm doing some carb work/tuning currently. But I should have all the bugs worked out soon. Oh yeah, I've got the vac. secondaries. Holley 750 cfm, 351W, Z Cam, roller rockers. Ford Racing Crate motor 385 HP.
