Default Time to suck up and do the Dyno thing.

We were talking a little while back about a good performance tuning shop with chassis dyno in the Sugar Hill area. John (Owen), you were getting some fuel injection set up help there. Could someone jog my memory and give me the name of the place? I actually called them and did a Mapquest for directions not too long ago. All of that memory has been lost (should have never quit sniffing glue) and now I have a renegade BG that needs some serious tuning. I thought it was Performance Engineering, but I see they are located in Smyrna. What's the deal?

I met a guy at lunch with a 65 Nova that I sent up there and he was pretty happy with the set up. He basically had it pretty close and needed some fine tuning.

Tony - Let me know when you want to go and I'll have mine run in as well - before you as I'm not tuning just baselines.

Default Fun

The dyno is a blast. It is kind of scary to run 125 mph + knowing that you are just being held there by some straps.

Quarter mile runs are very fun. I was most concerned about getting the right fuel / air ratio after putting on a new carb.

Here is a photo. They had their dyno buried in the ground.

Ps The stains on the wall were not from my Cobra....

Tony,

I just dropped my Supra off at Balanced Performance today.

They were telling me about a Supra that they just finished that put down over 1100 rwhp. Unreal!

Joel,

I saw that Supra or should I say BONDO queen! It might have an engine but that's all it has. Ed, who did the engine work says it really just a show car - heck, like most of our club.

Cracker,

Yes, I'm told that it definitely had a "ghetto" look, as described by someone at the shop.

There must be another dyno around. Ever see the Sam (Lemollo) and Dave show? They had a guy with a Mustang dyno around here some were.

Man, that dyno room has pretty close quarters. I'll bet that experience was unbelievably loud....

I got the name of a guy who's a carb expert so I'm told, who's opening up another performance outfit with dyno somewhere in Gainsville. I'll post his name soon (his card is in the garage and I'm too lazy to get up and get it).

Tony - Too tired to get the card? Who knew something the size of a match stick head could wear you out!

Well, after all that work, it's better, but far from perfect. I've got dyno time scheduled for Saturday 6/12 at 9:00 AM. What do they do about getting the oxygen sensor reading? I hear they have to drill a hole in the headers and mount a sensor. Is that right? Ouch!

For US non FI cars that don't already have the bung in the exhaust you can either just adjust based on power reading or do what you suggested above. They might (probably not however) have a probe in which they can stick up the pipe(s). Lets hope so! Heck don't sweat it you have a hole in your stripe and this will give you a matching one in the pipes.

Default REAL LOUD

Yes, the dyno was really loud. (it was awesome) What was funny was the run he forgot to turn the exhaust fans on. Cough, Cough.

By the way. For my Cobra, since the side pipes are so unrestricted anyway, instead of drilling and welding in a bung they just put their sensor on a long wire and ran it up the sidepipes. It worked fine.

There is a dyno in Peachtree City. Forgot the name but if any interest I'll drive by.

Default Great speed shop in Northern Indiana

If any of you need your snakes, (or any other type of car) dyno'ed or "tweaked" Greer Performance in Ft. Wayne is EXCELLENT. Their customer service is unbelievable.

Here is a link to their website.

They really know their stuff and will take care of you!

Their is also Tommy Higgins out in Douglasville. I inquired about dyno tuning and was told $70/hour. I bought a few parts from them and they were very nice and Tommy took the time to answer a couple of quetions for me. I guess Higgins is pretty well know in the Mustang world. I havent looked into references for him since im not quite to that step yet.
