Yo Atlanta crowd!
I've noticed the local post count has really been down of late. Don't you think it's about time for another gathering? We have a few new local cars to drool over i.e. the new Crackermobile and one of my Dacula neighbors who recently took delivery of a sweet SPF w/514 stroker. Ive only seen TCs car in his garage. What do you think we crash one of the Saturday evening cruise ins? I know the weathers been a bit unpredictable lately (I got rained on for most of the trip between the dyno shop in Peachtree City and home last weekend). I would prefer not going beyond the Cumming area myself.

Here is a suggestion.
Come and join us in Augusta for the memorial dedication on September 11, 2004 at the former Augusta International Raceway which is being developed into Diamond Lakes Regional Park.
The race winning Cobra (CSX2260) is scheduled to be transported from California for the event. Go here for the tribute page:
www.augustainternationalraceway.com
and here for the latest news:
www.historicmustang.com/pressrelease.html
We want to "Pack the Park" with Cobras for this public event.
Any questions just let me know.

Henry, the way folks around here buy and sell Cobras, we may have a completely new club by September.

I'm game for something this weekend. Posting has been curtailed because of travel related to work - with a quick trip over to the "Willis"

How about the Varsity at 7:00 on Sat. night? I'll try to get a pit pass for it but no guarantees after attending the Willis this week.

I certainly understand the busy part. We are going to develop the event in Augusta each year into a "Cobra Gathering".

Henry, that's a great idea. We hashed around a similar concept a year or so ago for an annual Cobra event somewhere in the Southeast that could be accessible to folks unable or unwilling to take their cars all the way to London, Ohio. You may be able to attract some of the vast Florida crowd and certainly Atlanta and the Carolinas. Maybe even our "BAMA buddies. Will the track be available for such events or by "preservation" do they mean pedistrian traffic only?

My understanding of it Tony - it's being turned into a walking/bike path. Not something I find rather 'cool' or 'exciting' and I'm pretty darn sure I won't find it enjoyable to drive my car there and attend. Drive my Cobra there so I can get out and walk the old track?!?! No thank you.
If it's something totally different - I sure would like to hear an explaination. Otherwise, if I want to walk something historic - the Silver Comet Trail passes right by my house.

I hear you. I'm interested in a track I heard about from one of the FFR guys somewhere down near Monticello. As I heard it, a couple of brothers inherited a nice sized chunk of land down there and one of them built a drag strip. Supposedly for a reasonably small amount of money the track is available for the day. AND THERE ARE VERY FEW RULES!

Randy - in retrospect, with 200 miles on an engine with no rings, it was probably the right thing to do. I think I'm ready. And I think you're right, it was Reynolds. Have you seen the track?

An engine with no rings? I can't wait for the next gathering so I can hear about your engine Tony. I'm also gonna be all ears when you talk about your carb tuning and dyno shops.

Mike, It looks like my BG carb was rich enough to wash my cylinders and clean that pesky lubricating oil off so my Moly rings could have a nice, dry contact surface. My main reason of the dyno trip was to ensure my fuel/air ratio was correct. It was pretty interesting watching the guys work.

Tony, sorry to say the former track will never be raced again.
This experience will be more of a historical nature and it certainly will not be for everyone.
I will say this. It is pretty neat to walk where the great drivers from the 50's and 60's raced (especially in Cobras).

Good to see a few replies to a post. Seems like everyone got busy the last few months... and the weather hasn't helped. Ive made it to Donut Derelicts a few weeks, but that's about it. Anyone still thinking of doing Varsity Saturday evening?
If not, how about Varsity for lunch Monday?

One of those should work. I just took the ride to the take out a few miles up the road. I can't believe how much perkier she as after the super tune. Money well spent.

With the seemingly mandatory afternoon and evening rain,(and Daytona Saturday evening) I'd vote for Monday lunch. 11:30 at Varsity?
Randy, I plan to be around the house on Saturday, call me and try to run by and see the backyard project.
