Introduction
Greetings, all -
Just wanted to introduce myself, if you don't mind.
My name is Paul, and the Mrs. and I will be moving from a Washington, DC 'burb to Alpharetta in April. We have a 13-month-old son, Ian (middle name "Keller," hence my user name here) who will take delivery of his first set of Crafstman tools sooner as opposed to later.
Although I'm not a Cobra owner yet, I'm pretty committed to getting something together in '06. This year, with the move and all, we'll need to get settled in and pay off a few bills, but next year is looking very good.
My plan during the next 12 months is to learn all I can about these cars and what's the right setup for me. I've had a couple of toys in the past, probably the most enjoyable of which was a '69 Mach I with a 351C-4BBL and lots of "good stuff" to go with the 4-speed and 4.57 rear (a 310/0.535" cam didn't hurt, either). It's been a while since I've owned anything interesting, however, and my lead foot is getting itchy.
Provided you don't mind non-owner enthusiasts tagging along, I'd appreciate the chance to meet you and learn all I can about these beautiful, heart-stopping machines. Of course, I'm speaking of the girls at Hooters, but the cars are pretty nice, too!
It will be a few months before we're in Alpharetta, but I thought I'd introduce myself and say "Hey." I know the Cobra club up here in the DC region has a standing breakfast meeting at the Vienna Inn; does your club have a usual day and time where you get together? As I said, if you don't mind an intruder, it'd be nice to meet some like-minded folk.
Many thanks to Scott for letting me know about this site and forum. Much obliged, Scott!
Paul

Paul,
Welcome to the club. Take a look in the drop down menu at the top under Local Clubs. There are a couple there that can steer you to any in your immediate area.

Paul - in case you haven't noticed yet, some people (from California or Pennsylvania) just reply to every post without looking where it's posted. You're in the right area - AC Cobra here stands for - Atlanta Club Cobra.
We don't do the standing breaksfest thing, but there is something every Sunday morning down towards town - Donuts. The gathering is a 'all hot rods' and a few Cobra owners make it their weekly pilgrimage.
This isn't a structured club. More so, just a bunch of guys sharing the enthusiasm for a Cobra. So, ask questions - check the board for spur of the moment get togethers or just PM the Toy Collector and ask to visit his house.

Thanks for confirming that I am in the right place. I was starting to wonder!
I'll watch the forum for a few months until we get down there, then I'll look for whatever events might come up.
"Donuts" sounds like a good time, too. I'm sure I'll check it out either way, but are most of the cars there "heavy metal," or are there a lot of tricked-out four-bangers there, too?
To each his own, I suppose, but I'm just not very keen on anything that's not V-8/RWD powered. Do with it what you will, but IMHO anything that rolled off the showroom floor getting better than 30 MPG can't be that much fun.
I'll also keep an eye out for ToyCollector. With a name like that, I tend to think that's a garage worth trying to score an invite to!

Welcome
Welcome to the ATLANTA area. This is a great area for car nuts and we'd be happy for you to tag along ... with or without a Cobra. We have alot of members in the north GA area and I'm in Alpharetta. (and I'm a VA native).
Don't hesitate to e-mail me if you need anything while you get ready to move down here.
...and don't worry about not having a Cobra at the gathering, some people I can think of and do have them, can't seem to get them to some of the meetings.. (and you know who you are )

" Don't hesitate to e-mail me if you need anything while you get ready to move down here."
Hmmm... well, I'll be moving our home, our office, two cars, my wife, my son, three (*&%$#@!) cats, and a dog.
Need anything?
A case of Maker's Mark sounds like a good start.
To be continued.

Being the only normal person in this group I welcome you to the ACC. As svobud said, this is not much of a club, no president or treasurer, but we do have a housemother - Cracker - that tries to be a positive influence. The club rules are: never spin tires, no loud exhaust, no alcohol other than communion, and lastly, there are no rules. Since you have no daughter, do you have a sister that you could bring to the initiation? We meet in Piedmont Park at 2AM on Saturday, but you will have to know the secret grab to get in -

That is freaking hilarious! The entire reply made me choke up my chocolate milk thru my nose, but it all started with that first sentence. HA! Normal is as normal does.
Paul - no - the Donut Derelicts does not include Fast-n-Furious Toyotas. Around here, the kids kinda stay away from the 'old guys'. Also - if you like cars - keep an eye out for the cruise in at Riverstone in Canton, Ga (just up I-575). It's starts back up in the spring and is held every 3rd Sat of the month until Oct. 500 muscle cars is not unheard of ... and it's just a cruise in.

Welcome Paul
And the only "normal one" is well............. I on the other hand have never been a smart ass or caused trouble. If you need advice feel free to ask - I have all of the answers to the questions never asked.

yeah right Randy...
KR,
While Randy can be relied upon to have the answers... none of them are right. As for John (excellent post by the way JO) well, if a plutonium burning Cobra is normal, than he's right on the money as for Cracker, you will get to meet him at the Piedmont initiation ceremony. (He'll hold your coat)

Please excuse my friends, Paul. "Donut Derlicts" (namemed after a CA group) meets SATURDAY am. Maybe SVO bud has been showing up on Sunday am and wondering why all the cool cars were!
The "Wheels" section of the Atlanta paper has listing of all present and future car events/clubs etc. I have made as many as 3 in a Sat!
For a viwe of cars that show up at "Donuts", go to "PanteraPlace.com, scroll down to the "Donut Derlicts" heading and click on, then scroll doawn to pics of the cars (and bussesQ) that show up. We have everything show, includig Ford tractors.
Welcome! And don't be afraid: MOST of the group is harmless-just a matter of figuring out which one(s) are not. chip in atlanta

Chip - for one, I get home around 4:30am on Sat and Sun mornings. Two, a cop eating donuts? How cliche'. So - I doubt you will ever see me at the donut place.

Yeah - the trouble is getting it swapped out for one that doesn't sound like a grinding supercharger. No time. No proper tools. No lift.
Who was it with a SVO? Do I know them? Bunch of us (SVO owners) in the area are getting together on Sunday and running up to the Brainerd Raceway. Kind of a 'get together' for Turbo Fords and what-nots.

Now boys, let's get along and behave! Troublemaker - go to your room. What did I tell you about lying to new members?
JO - you can't lure unsuspecting outatowners to your house under the guise of normalcy, yes normalcy! Funny Chill I never thought about the Cobra being the defining "thing" that made him NOT normal.
I for one am normal and hadn't seen this post or I would straightened this out sooner.
I don't have a Cobra but still routinely show up at get together at 2 am (they can't get rid of me!) but as Chill has already suggested TC has one (we think) and never brings it (Alex D's the same way).
Welcome to club of confusion where the initiator of events rarely shows up to host and having thick skin is something painfully needed. See you in April! If there's anything you need call Chill!

If we ever decide to alienate people because they don't actually own a Cobra ... then Cracker would be the first to go.
