Anyone done Panoz track days?
Saw that they have a track day session coming up Sept 16-17 - $275 for Sat $375 for Sun, or $600 for both days. Drive your own car.
Anyone done this and have any comment on the program?
Just want to drive my cobra without having to worry about ride-along rules like NASA has.
Thanks!
Scott

Panoz Track Days
I've done several of the 3 day schools with many different companies. Panoz is excellent! I've not done a lapping day with them but I'm sure they do an awesome job. You may want to call Lisa K at Panoz and ask her about the format. She'll be very helpful or at least point you in the right direction. What track will you be running Road Atlanta? It's a really great track, so is Sebring. Good Luck, Aron

Want to do Road Atlanta since it's local. Did a NASA HPDE event there, but had to rent a FFR spec cobra that had full width roll-bar. NASA insisted I have an instructor ride along and my car only has driver side roll-bar.

If you want to do track days in a Cobra you will need in car instruction, You are never gonna learn to be fast following somebody around the track. You don't necessarily have to learn in a Cobra, learning in a street car will gain you valuable track experience. Once you get some track experience where you can solo you can transfer you driving experience right on to your Cobra. The learning curve may be a little longer this way but it works.Lots of guys with single hoop Cobras start out driving something else and turn out to be pretty decent Cobra trackers.

Talked to the school and they have open slots in all classes for anyone wanting to sign up. If you sign up less than a week before the event (this Sat Sept 7) there is a $50 late registration charge.
Now lobbying for the kitchen pass and figuring out how to get a TV out there to watch the Auburn - LSU game that afternoon between runs ;-)

Did you go to RA for the Panoz lapping day? I have thought about doing them a few times before but never have and would like to hear your input.

Went to one. Great! Friendly staff, many different driving groups(slow/medium/fast) with pace car in novice class to show you the line. Would do it again! cb

Chill - event is this coming weekend Sept 17-18. However, I'm now hosed and hoping to switch to the Dec event.
Continuing engine issues that now appear to be related to the block. Have pulled the engine and am going to take it to Southern. Parham suspects a leaking cylinder sleeve.

December 2-3 may work better for me anyway. I will look into doing that with you. Keep me posted on your car.

Chateaux Elan
The Chateaux Elan hotel at Road Atlanta is awesome as well. Big $$$ but Ritz quality and service. The restaraunts are excellent. Bring your wife and let her go to the spa. It is really special. I went to RA and stayed there about a year ago and keep looking for a time to get back with my wife to enjoy the hotel again. It isn't a bad excuse to do another DE as well!! I am thinking I want to tow the Porsche down for a PCA race some time too. It is just so dang far to tow for two days of racing (12 hrs.)

I'm registered as I was going to the one in Sept, but that's when the engine problem raised its head again. Hope I'm driving the cobra by then. Got the engine and tranny back in. Only hold up is I'm missing one of the washers from the carb studs and fear it is down in the intake. So waiting on a borescope to show up so I can look down in there and try to see it. Otherwise, it's off with the intake - again!
If that doesn't work, I'll be looking to set the mini-van course record at RA!

Chill - You still going?
I'm signed up for the Sunday only pass right now. Have to go to London all next week and get back Friday afternoon. Would love to go on Saturday, but have a feeling that will not go well with wifey and the flying monkeys after having been gone all week.
Best news is that the car is running, doesn't appear to be dripping anything, and no funny noises or fluids coming from places they shouldn't. So, now I can just blow it up at RA
Still trying to figure out how to mount the rabbit's foot to the rear view mirror

Yep, all signed up. Saturday only... too bad you can't get a kitchen pass for Saturday. Maybe I will come watch!
I am also doing the 3-day Panoz Racing Course in March. Then I will just need to find someone with an HSR-capable car to beg, borrow, or rent!!

I've done the 3 day GT school and one follow-up track day, all in the Panoz GT/RA car. Good, clean fun and a damn challenging track at RA.
