Default Dodge Dakota transmission problems

Anybody got a a favorable opinion on a transmission repair shop in the NE Atlanta area? The auto in my V8 Dakota is about to take a dump on me. Is AAMCO as good as any? They estimate $2-2.5K for repair. That might be fair. I have no idea.

I don't live in Ga. but that sounds high$$$$ to me. Replaced one in my Ram 1500 for less at the dealer.

What problem are you having with the transmission? My customers keep asking me about mine, but I haven't noticed anything yet. It is a 2000 with 55,000 miles.

It doesn't shift very smoothly when going around a corner. It slips and grabs when shifting between first and second. Other than that, it works fine. I'm wondering if the fluid is just low as it does have some leaks. I suppose it's a stretch to think AAMCO would have checked the fluid level when they did the free inspection. I guess it's not in their best interest to identify a potential low-cost fix if they think they can sell me a complete overhaul. The Dodge dealer said they would replace it with a refurb for $2,700. I think I'll get the fluid level checked and topped off before buying into a replacement.

My wifes 99 durango started shift wierd all of the sudden one day. After talking to a few guys, they said the car was trying to tell me it was time to change the fluid. I said "yeah right". Took it grease monkey anyway and got the "tranny flush" deal, and it has been shifting great ever sence....about 20,000 miles ago.

I took the truck by a Juffy Lube after work. The fluid was about a half quart low. He showed me where most of the nine bolts in the transmission pan were finger tight (source of fluid leak) and that the seals were not leaking bad. I'm wondering if the AAMCO guys loosened the bolts. They had it on the lift for half an hour before they proclaimed the trans to be "trashed". It took the Jiffy Lube guy about 10 seconds to find the problem. I definitely smell a rat. If not a rat, an incompetent AAMCO mechanic.

A dodge with tranny problems? NEVER!!!

Glad you got it figured out!

My brother in law went through 3 transmissions in 2 years in his 1500. Luckily for him, they were all still under warranty!
