Default COB 100003 for sale

Q couple of the AC Mk V's originally for sale under the AC Cars US operation are still on sale:

Chassis number 3 (COB 100003) is a completed car, chassis number 4 is part completed.

VillaMoto: Cobra

VillaMoto: Cobra

There were 3 AC Mk Vs sold in the UK by Clive Sutton who had to spend thousands of pounds on each car to bring them up to acceptable standards
(pictures of COB 100011 attached).

I wonder how many other Mk Vs are lurking somewhere in the US (or Malta!)

I saw my first "AC MK V" in the flesh recently. The owner has spent a lot of time and money making it a driveable vehicle. He has a car that is not much different from a Factory Five car in many ways, it is only partly factory built, and it is up to the buyers abilities and creativity to complete it to any useable standard. (note-this is NOT a slam on Factory Five cars, I have seen some done to a fantastic standard)

To say that the provided coachwork and paint were "below par" would be charitable. After the standards set by Mr. Angliss and his band of merry men, the finish level of the Maltese Falcons is disappointing at best.

This is another reason I contend that "AC" no longer exists in any real fashion. That someone signed off and shipped these products says all I need to know........

'Octane' magazine did a detailed survey of all the original Cobras and continuation ACs back in 2009 which included Clive Sutton's experiences with the three British Mk Vs.

Faults included: incorrectly fitted wiring, steering not bolted correctly, braking cables fouling the wheel arches, poor trim requiring partial retrim, bonnet (hood) not shutting properly, problems with the clutch etc etc.

Two of the cars were sent to Gerry Hawkridge for rectification and the third to Gardner Douglas - Clive Sutton lost £15,000 on the last car.

However the good news for those purchasing one of these three cars now, is that the faults should have been ironed out. For those who want an 'AC', the silver car at just under £50,000 looks like a tempting and much newer alternative to a MkIV CRS for not much more money.

Do all the MkVs have those crazy low roll bars?
