... I wish there was a registrar in the Cobra world as well versed as Marcel Massini in the Ferrari world who can be counted on to regularly poke holes when what he views as a "false" Ferrari is put on sale or display.
I now understand why you do those paint-by-number things.....

Didn't you get thrown out of the Ferrari club for making wild accusations against it registrar and members? Guess some people never learn.

Does Ferrari have 100,000 pages of published registries that SAAC does?
Over at the SAAC Forum, the following video will show what will happen if you try to pass off your less-than-authentic Shelby as legitimate:
Wally, where should I start? Shall I bust everyone on eBay who advertises a "1966 427 Shelby Cobra" when, inevitably, it is something else masquerading as a Shelby-built car? Or what did you have in mind?
Egads, so many memories, so little precision. Well, here goes...
We can happily confirm that we took receipt of MKII COX 4004 in June of 1995, painted very dark blue with full chrome wire-wheels. It was a handsome package, painted exceedingly flat and bright, much better than the older paint specs. It began life as CSX 4004, as it was intended to be a US car at the order date, which changed during the lengthy construction period, due to the collapse of the company.
In fact, the receivers from PW were ugly enough to demand the original Mathwall engine in my previously completed Lightweight, as further price to complete the MKII, despite having been fully paid previously. i kept the Lightweight at the factory for a few years.
This expensive overcharge would never have happened under Brian, but there was little reason or capability for me to finish the car ex-factory at the time. Yes, i was robbed, but politely.
This was the last MKII to be completed in full by the "original" AC Cars, Ltd, GB company. It used the final chassis for setting-up the latest set of chassis jigs, which were subsequently dismantled.
We kept her for about 5 or 6 years, or so, in GB as a streeter. It was sold to a Brit, nice chap, and remains in your lovely Isles, at last count. i have honored his privacy and have had no reason to revise our understanding to date.
As it was then NOT to go to the USA, the chassis number was revised to COB 4004 and EU TUF, by the factory, upon delivery. AND the change from RHD to LHD, per my order, was revised by the new owner to RHD, by AC, i was told.
-------------------------------------------------------
As an aside, the first AC CSX 40XX MKIII series was the original Wagner serial series, US cars shipped as rollers, some painted, some not. But, as the cars were likely to be seen by FORD customers and management, they were revised to COX 61XX, for comity and peace… Shelby "planned" to make a CSX 60XX series, so the revisions had to be done to keep peace in the family.
For instance, the original Wagner CSX 4003 MKIII became the Thomas COX 6133, etc. i am advised.
So, you see the SAAC book is a little in error here, as the "other" cars were not all MKIII's. One was COB 4004, a MKII, as discussed at length above. Another was CSX 3056, a MKIII SC, and CSX 3058, our current car's revised serial.
We have previously discussed the very short series of CSX 30XX MKIII SC 's.
The other COB 4000 MKIII was the Pacifica Blue Bowers, Ltd/Savage car to GB and the COB 4001 MKIII in Porche Zink Metallic for Fynn in Herts…
All pretty clear to me, she says…….
----------------------------
Meanwhile, as we are planning to upgrade the family plane, CSX 3058 may go on the market this year. Let me know if your well-heeled friends want a real factory SC, circa 1992. It is the original Angliss personal car. Never driven. Located Orlando. See my pix.
I have a few pix of COB 4004 here, if you wish me to put them in my portfolio above.

Well I do have a deposit on one....."AC" assures me it is under build and shortly to be ready for delivery. They just won't say where it is being built.

Ah, memories and precision. Not words you often read in the same sentence. I knew where 4004 had gone, as it was a car very familiar to me wheilst in the tender care of an ex-AC person, but as for where it 'really' is now....who can say fer sure? So many of these cars have gone into deep cover only to reappear in a new coat of paint, some race-ready accessories and a whole new life, not to say identity! Not suggesting for one moment that 4004 has been thus transformed, but one never knows, does one?
Likewise, but on a slightly different tack, one wonders what kind of identity the new Daytona(s) currently being built might enjoy when they receive their FIA papers and take to the Historic race events in Yurup. Now there's one to google!! The info is out there in public domain, but not, as far as I am aware, posted on this site.....
Ned - since when did the Cobra Registrar ever have 'spare time'? Clearly you are an imposter :-)

Well, it seems that Wally has stopped paying attention to this thread, so it is perhaps safe to discuss the situation.
My sources (let's just call them "The Dumb Bunnies", which should not be confused with "da bunnies" (TM)"), tell me that Alan Lubinsky was apparently in North Korea selling the "eternal leader" on the idea of a new AC Factory, which could bring wealth and prestige to the North, much like Hyundia/Kia have done for the South. However with the "eternal leader" currently taking some sort of extended nap, the situation is currently on hold. The North is rather secretive, which would explain why we have not heard much from Alan lately.
Let's hope Wally is not following this. I heard that in the bibliography in his last book that he mistakenly attributed his entire chapter on the "7th Daytona Coupe" to the user "LntCoBra" (typo?) from clubcobra, when my only contribution to that thread was a bit of skepticism. Having not read that book, I can't say whether someone is just playing a prank or me or perhaps just trying to get me to read the book.

Trevor, you might know as well as any of us, but it is clear that several "Cobras" running around the race tracks in Europe are in fact nothing of the sort; they are, instead, Kirkham or Hawk copies either masquerading as a given CSX # while the real car is in hiding or, in some cases, they are using a CSX # to which the owner of the clone has no legal claim. It's not a good situation and it shows no signs of slowing down.

Ned,
Do you mean to imply that there are "fake" cars about?!?!?
Say it ain't so Joe! (horrors!)
Where is Wally when we need him?

Trevor,
Could you be talking about a Kirkham Coupe or a McCluskey Coupe?
Ned - indeed and they come out to play at Goodwood, Tour Auto, etc etc. Very few genuine cars are raced today. In the UK a couple of the most notable are CS(X) 2130 and COB 6008 which are the real deal.
To be honest, I wonder how some of these owners can live with themselves when they celebrate their so-called 'race wins'. But if you sponsor a headline race event, then (in Europe) you can rely on your fake going through sctuineering with roller rockers, trick suspension, 5-speed box (count the gear changes!!) while some of the genuine cars get the heavy treatment. Some many tales to tell, so few cheap lawyers....
