Anyone for a 460ci SBF?
Great opportunity here to make a gob of horsepower and torque. I'm offering a 460 cubic inch small block Ford, based on a Dart Sportsman block and forged rotating assembly. Combine that with ported TFS High Port heads and you get a large amount of power on pump gas without having to spin the engine up high.
I can offer this in either a turn-key or a turn-key-minus package. Here's a list of parts and pricing on the turn-key option, which includes a full pulley/bracket kit, carburetor, starter, alternator, PCV valve, plugs, wires, blah, blah, blah.
*Dart Sportsman block, fully machined
*Eagle forged 4.250" crankshaft
*Eagle forged H-beam rods
*Diamond forged pistons
*Mahle piston rings
*Clevite main/rod bearings
*Internally balanced rotating assembly
*Durabond cam bearings
*Custom Comp Cams hydraulic roller camshaft
*Ford Racing timing set
*New cam thrust plate
*ARP cam bolts
*New timing cover, with fuel pump block off plate
*ATI harmonic balancer
*ARP balancer bolt
*Felpro one piece rear main seal
*Melling HV oil pump
*ARP pump shaft
*Felpro oil pan gasket
*Moroso front sump oil pan, pickup, dipstick
*ARP pump/pickup bolts
*Felpro head gaskets
*Edelbrock aluminum water pump
*Ported Trickflow High Port heads, Ferrea valves, Comp Cams springs, retainers, etc
*Comp Cams rocker arms
*Comp Cams hydraulic roller lifters (link-bar style)
*Mr. Gasket intake gaskets
*Ported/Port Matched Edelbrock Super Victor intake
*MSD Pro Billet distributor
*Ford Racing distributor clamp
*Ford Racing valve covers
*Quick Fuel Q-series carburetor
*PCV valve/hose
*MSD plug wires, Autolite spark plugs
*March pulley/bracket kit
*1 wire 60A alternator
*Stainless steel bolt kit
*MSD coil and coil bracket
*Motorcraft oil filter
*CVR gear drive starter
*Fully assembled, dyno tested
*$15500 with hydraulic roller camshaft - 625hp
For those of you with a supply of Depends hidden in the garage, I can also offer this with a little meaner solid roller camshaft. This package would include Crower HIPPO lifters, different Comp springs/retainers/pushrods, and a stud girdle.
As with all my engines, you get a very specialized one-on-one experience. I spend a great deal of time with my customers before starting on a build, just to qualify different options, parts, expectations, etc. You also get a full build sheet, a list of all parts used, build pictures, head flow sheets, balance sheets, dyno sheets, fitted sheets, dryer sheets, and a dyno video.
I can not be responsible for loss of bladder and/or bowel control with one of these engines.

Brent,
If I remember correctly, a Super Vic will need about .500" milled off the pad to fit in a Cobra app. Dominators make more power but then no air cleaner...
And those high port TF's-are the exhaust ports raised too? A header problem for Cobras if so.

What a motor, you could pull an airstream behind your cobra and still rippoff 12 second quarter miles. Awesome.

Chas, you are right on both accounts. The Super Victor is 1/2" taller than the Victor Jr. However, when I supply engines to Cobra manufacturers, they find it pretty easy to work around this sort of thing. FE's with Tunnel Wedges and Victor FE intakes sometimes offer the same difficulties.
The Trick Flow TW-R and High Port heads do have a slightly raised exhaust pattern. However, flanges are available separately for those heads and it's not too hard of a modification to make.
You gotta pay to play and with the larger displacement street Windsors (427-up), I go with the 225cc heads. The TFS heads perform better than the AFR's in this size.
The AFR heads and Victor Jr intake would most certainly make a strong combination as well.
Patrick, I get a lot of requests from customers that want something that they can basically drop in with as little fuss as possible. It seems that the details can really slow you down sometimes.

Any experience with the 225, World 18 degree head?
This package made 618 to 635 (rated at '600') on a regular basis. With a .687" solid roller, 1050 and 2 more points it made 690 to 706 on race gas.
For you I think these would sell well going into early Mustangs, Fairlanes and Galaxy's.

Haven't done anything with the World heads. I mainly stick with the AFR and TFS stuff on small blocks.
Those numbers seem very reasonable.
I always toss out ideas on Club Cobra for engines. Some guys like to have unique engines and go to different lengths to make them fit....cammers, Boss 9's, etc.

How much more does this motor cost compared to a 427 sbf with the same specs or as close too, i'm starting to think for a street motor this would be the way to go for a sbf set up, for the power it makes, the engine is very small. At what rpm would this motor stop making its power.

You're only looking at around $500-600 difference, and that's a high ballpark. This isn't as common of a combination as the 408, 427, and 445, so custom pistons have to be used.

Forgot to answer your second question.
The rpm at which it peaks just depends on the camshaft and head flow. We can make it do whatever we want it to do.
Also keep in mind that those numbers on that other thread are engine sim numbers and are usually a little high, although the rpm peaks are usually dead on. Any engine that will approach 600hp @ 6000 is something to be respectful of.

It seems like a no brainer for only 500 dollars more, your basically getting almost 100 hp more than a 427 sbf, with the same engine package.

It would take quite a bit of cam to hit 100 hp over a 427...
That's why I say to not pay attention to those sim numbers. They're good for looking at trends, not so good for determining peak numbers.

It still seems like a no brainer to me, the extra cubes cant hurt, unless it makes the motor that much less reliable than the 427 sbf.

Chas a super victor will fit in a cobra with a drop down Base (a least it does in mine). I have a 461SBF in my cobra, and i am very pleased with the engine.
Brent only 500 more? Thats a good deal considering custom pistons, notching
the block, larger heads etc

Do you run a 4500? That's a tad taller than a 4150. At the time I was using my ERA for dimensions. I think the key is it will fit some Cobras with a drop base cleaner.
Brent could do well with the early Mustang/Fairlane/Galaxy guys with this. Even seen a few Fox Mustangs run easy 9's with this combo.
Brent, that 'fastest street car', 9" tire crowd could be a good venue for you.

The Dart blocks come clearanced really well. If you have to notch, it's not by much. I've found that a lot of work has to be done to the oil pump, if you use a HV pump, even with a 4" stroke.
Chas.....indeed.

Fordracing F I believe it was 559 RWHP. I am running a solid roller 268 272 Duration, 731 722 Lift (4 7 swap on firing order),112LCA.
Chas 4150 with a 1.25 drop down base. I have about 1/4 or less before it rubs.
Brent u will have to notch the block on a dart. I do not think so on a world block. Why would need to do any work on the oil pump if using a dart block (oiling is very good)?
I am using a mellings HVHP pump with oil cooler (Cold PSI 95 cold, 45 hot with 5w30). did change the spring to get the pressure i wanted but thats it (.0025 on mains and rods).
Brent thanks for taking the time to answer questions.
