Brent- I agree on the spring psi and that's why I won't go much over 700, keeping the high lobes down. I really like the newer Isky springs and lifters for rollers.
The sprint car's cam is 780 (short track size) but we tear the motor down after every season and replace the springs no matter what, but these engines are a different animal than a street motor. I haven't had a mechanical cam on the street since my old Pro-Street days, and the technology has improved a great deal.

Your cam is going to be wild, so I'd keep a close eye on it. Most of these Edelbrock heads don't really do much more from .600 to .700 lift, so there's no real reason to run that big of a cam.
The Comp Xtreme Energy lobes work really well for most street solid roller applications. Any lobe with more than 38° MI will probably start to push the envelope, especially with FE rocker ratios.

Are you using a valley cover to help with heat & oil splash ?
Do the lifters have needles ?
They look great and it'll be a stout motor !

Are the dog bones installed upside down? Or does it not matter, I think I installed mine the other way.

Kevin, no valley cover and yes the lifters have needle bearings.
Mad,
The dog bones are indeed right side up...and it does matter.

Look at this picture....
See the "bump" on the bone? That's for the retainer to sit on.

Reading the FEFORUM I hear our friend blykins has another new and even better build on the go.
No disrespect Mat, but I think his new build has been in the making for a 9 months now and will excite even more than your super 427SBF.
I'm sure blykins will release details as soon as he can about project Avery.
We'd be happy with just a pic of the final result and don't need all the build pics
Congrats on the fine work going on at B2 Brent. Wishing you all the very best with the new "Avery" project!

Alright, got some time to work on a few engines today. Will post a few pics later, but got Mat's timing cover and balancer on, pushrods and rocker arms cleaned and installed, and the valves ran.
Should have the intake on tomorrow. Switching the timing pointer to the pass side and adding some MSD timing tape. The driver's side of the engine is "busy" with the water pump inlet there and it makes it hard to see the timing marks. Gonna try to make the valve covers look like swiss cheese too, as they need drilled for the vac regulator, pop-off, and the bung for the vacuum gauge fitting.
The crank mandrel for the pump pulley arrived the other day and we're waiting on the pan and pump from Dailey.

Is that like 200 mph NASCAR duct tape? Sounds faster already.

Can't wait to see this monster you're putting in the JBL Coupe. By the way call me if you are going to Larry's today. I may sneak out and go with you.

Balancer's setup for a driver's side timing pointer. If you put one there, it's impossibly hard to see behind the water pump inlet hose, etc. I did that once and vowed to not do it again.
Mat's engine will get a pass side pointer and the marks have to be adjusted accordingly. The MSD timing tape is a lot easier to read as well, especially when the engine is down in the engine bay.

Ahhhh. My IW balancer is a beautiful piece, fully marked. But the reflection of the billet makes it impossible to read with the strobe bouncing off it, down low as you say. I cut small strips of MSD tape (maybe Moroso's-it was flat not gloss black) and put its yellow hash marks at zero, 22 and 38 degrees.
