I'll give everyone an update.
I asked Gary for an extension for some more tuning time.
Last Friday was dyno day, of course, but after a morning of distributor problems, we really didn't get to hit on it until after lunch. We ran out of tuning time, plus my regular carb guy was in Tennessee working for a truck pulling team.
We're going to try another carb, a Quickfuel instead of the Holley Ultra Pro. I have a feeling we can pull some more ponies out of the combination. I'm scheduled to put it back on the pump the weekend of the 19th. If we pull some more horsepower out, that would be great. If not, then we can chalk it up to R&D.

I like the carb switch idea, Quickfuel is a better carb...

This carb was gone through by my carb guy, so it's not exactly a turd. However, it was too big for the engine and after fighting A/F ratios for quite a bit, we thought that the carb just wasn't getting enough signal.
I have several 480-500 inch motors coming through the pipe, so I'll offer it to one of those customers at a discount.

It was a Holley HP Ultra that's "called" a 950, but has venturi sizes that are 1050-sized. Going to use a Quick Fuel 950.

Squeaked out another 11 hp and 6 lb-ft of torque with the Quick Fuel. The Holley was just simply too big. We needed 92 sized jets with it, and 76 with the Quick Fuel.
Final numbers were 662 @ 6900 and 576 lb-ft of torque.

Just as a follow-up....
The engine has been in the capable hands of Jay and the boys at Vintage Motorsports for several weeks now. I must say, they do good work.
Unfortunately, the freight company decided to see if it would bounce or not and it arrived with a slightly cock-eyed engine cradle and a dented oil pan.
I drop shipped Jay another dry sump pan from Aviaid and they fixed her up.
Honestly, this has been one of my favorite builds so far. Everything has just come together really well as far as the appearance and performance of the engine, and the appearance and build of the car. It's a really sweet package. We had some issues with oil pump to frame rail clearance, but it's been taken care of.
Here's a link to some of the install pics as Gary gets them from Jay.

I must say... never was a 'blackout' fan but this is the best one I've ever seen. The green accent stripes and stitching set it off perfectly. Excellent graphic taste.
The assembly guys are doing meticulous work.
I think say 'goodbye' to those CV joints with Lykins power and big rubber...

Thx guys...You are well on the way as well Todd-looks spectacular!!!
Jay and I talked A LOT about the axles with BDR and some fellow owners who have big power/big sticky tires and race the cars, these upgraded pieces should be fine . Jay can ellaborate but I believe these are the HD version-not sure if we had to order these special or if BDR has started using them a standard equipment.
This car has upgraded suspension components/solid mounts etc...and a lot of power so it was one of the first things we talked about, as for the asthetics...to each his own but I can say that Jay, having built so many of these really knows the little nuances that make the difference between being "really" happy with it or being "over the top" happy with it.
I can't say enough about both Brent and Jay on how they operate their respective businesses...I havent driven the car yet so I'll keep the accolades to the point at this time Lets just say that I feel pretty confident though on the end result!!!

I just hope that you don't poop your pants in front of everyone. First time you let her eat, do it out away from everyone so you can go clean up if need be.

What did you have to do to get the hood to clear the air cleaner. Looks tight. Great looking car that will have as much go as it does show. And maybe then some.

Doug-there is a 1" super sucker block that we had on it for the vac nipple (and a couple of HP) which needs to come off-the BDR hoods are cut out beneath the scoop too so they will handle a tall/wide set up, when you look at the top of the engine with the hood open it appears as though nothing will close but it does.

Lot of progress this week, I need to get new photos posted. The car really is coming together nicely. I think the color combo is stunning. It's not a traditional car by any means.
Lot of stuff out for powder coating and ceramic coating that slows us down...

It's usually the details that slow me down too. I'll get the engine assembled in pretty good time, but I spend days trying to get alternator brackets to work, or something stupid like that.
Everything looks really nice Jay.
