Is it real?
"What?"
The car
"What car?"
That car.
"What?"
If that doesn't get rid of them, I am tempted to drool. My wife gets mad at me when I do the whole "what" thingie.

Oh....Oh....Oh, Oh, Oh !!!! I forgot one a question from the original post. And that was about a radio. Conversation goes something like this:
"Where's the stereo?"
"I don't have one."
"Watcha mean, ya don't have one? Man, if I had a car like this, I'd have one big-a$$ stereo in it!"
I explain not only is driving the car entertainment enough, but it can be a handful and distractions arn't something I need.
I just get a blank look.....totally glazed over look.
So......"Why don't you have a stereo?" is yet another question I"ve had a few times.

I don't think I would ever answer yes to 'is it real?'. They would probably write my license number down and come to my house to steal it.

I only have to turn the key to answer that question. No way I could really listen to a stereo over the FE. And I'd rather enjoy the tunes of the FE anyway. Pure old-school driving enjoyment is the point for me.

When asked if it's real, I proudly say "it's a replica that I built". That usually brings out multiple questions about the kit, costs and the build process. Much better than having to say "I bought it" and have them walk away.

Jim, your car is absolutely beautiful, and you can easily see the care that went into building it.
However, not everyone will take the time to build a car to the level that you did. I'm sure that you would admit that yourself.

I'm hoping someone will clear the air, because this thread stinks.

We talked about this exact point while I was up at ERA. I think I could build a car as well as, or pretty darn close to, the folks at ERA just by ordering all the stuff from them and then putting it all together. But it would take me a couple of years to do it, working full time on it as well. Seriously though, the key is buying all the stuff from them to reduce the need to fab stuff on your own. I think they sell every possible part except the engine -- even the air in the tires . Now, I would not pay for "minimum wage workers in a foreign country" to do the work. But, what do I know.... maybe they're quite skilled.

Hmm...like those cheap SPFs? Most of the parts you'd have to buy are made by minimum wage workers anyway.

They don't have a minimum wage in that particular country.

Do I get worked up over terms? I wouldn't say worked up but I like to keep opinions from encroaching on facts.
SAAC, who is the world accepted authority on Cobras and replicas of Cobras defines all the terms you guys are talking about and struggling to define.
You are free to use your own definitions but I prefer to use and go with the acceptd meaning of the terms as set by the authoritative text on the subject...The SAAC Registry.

Trotting out the same old tired "fact."
Just because everyone else is jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge doesn't necessary mean we have to follow them.
Mr. Kopec and Mr. Eber are only human beings, mere mortals, they have their opinions and they I'm sure have made their fair share of mistakes.
As you said, we're free, and we can hire our own experts.

I seriously doubt if the average guy, or his wife and son, at the local cruise-in have ever heard of the SAAC Registry. You and I both know what he (or his 12 year-old son) means when he asks you if it is "real".
He is asking if the car is one of the "real" original '60s Cobras. He expects the honest truth.
I know you are proud of your continuation series car. Be proud of what it honestly is.

Ok, we have our positions clear; the Rodger view and the Evan view.
Evan - you own a real Shelby Cobra. That statement should be undisputed. If a 12 year old kid asks you if it's real ( and we all know he is asking if it is a 1960s Cobra), what is your answer?

My car is hand built in a factory just like a Ferrari.
Or a Yugo....
If a 12 year old kid asks you if it's real ( and we all know he is asking if it is a 1960s Cobra), what is your answer?
That's easy, he says, "Get the #!*& away from my car kid!"

Are you trying to say that Evan's authoritative citation is nothing more than "SAAC fiat?"

Remember Apple's 1984 commercial with the women throwing a hammer at the screen to break the mind control of the State? That's what I mean. We the people are free to have a opinion different than SAAC and I've been a member since...a long time ago.

Peter P. assures me that the Vatican II has specifically addressed the issue and that ERA cars are indeed real Cobras. They trump SAAC, by a mile.
