Wind Webbing- to keep the wife happy
In the interest of "selling" the car idea to the wife, so that "we" could use it. I had a second roll bar installed. Once we got rolling the problem of wind came up, I continued to get the "go slower my hair is getting messed up". I have tried the hair ties and ball caps (which tended to depart around 90mph). I made some of mesh wind screens to try to keep her happy. I don't really know if it changes the wind that much BUT it does make her happier/quieter, so it works for me!
They were pretty simple to make just got some mesh netting, 1" trim and put some weed wacker line around on the inside of the trim to keep the shape tight. Put on some velco to make it easy to remove.

Hi Rwillia4,
Yes, but does it work? I've got the same problem and even more so. It's getting to the point of "Screw it, stay home." But, the loving husband that I am says "Hey, if she isn't happy, then I'm MISERABLE!" Yes I have two rollbars too. And the more I eyeball your solution, the more I dislike it although it's construction is tops. Is there that much wind from the back? I've never noticed where it comes from, really don't care. Help. Cliff

Yes it works she doesn't b!tch as much!
Yep all the wind goes over the top of the windsheild and then rolls back into the seats from the back. At speed throw a napkin by the roll bars and see what direction it goes. I got the idea of mesh from looking at current cars like ours (sport convertables) porsh, MB, BMW. I was atually thing of going all the way across meshing the center area also.

I think your solution is pretty elegant. Nicely done. But did you consider making a mesh screen to cover her mouth? Now THAT would really help with "the wind."

Rwillia, I make no secret of wondering why people buy Cobras and then try to change them into something more modern and civilized, but your modification looks well thought out, unobtrusive and well executed (even better - it's removable ) I wonder if it will be enough to preserve wifey's coif at highway speeds, but if it makes her happy enough to cut you some slack, that's all that really matters.

my wife would be sitting at home if she did that, but maybe I am just an a..hole. I have taken her over 120 mph in a boat with no windscreen, so maybe I got lucky with the wife selection.

I was thinking the same thing. Make a gag out of the material.

Hey, 2 out of 3 ain't bad!
There is also a plexiglas version that Rob Frink from Beaumont Metal Works fabs up. He has an SPF. Don't have the web url handy, but do a Google and you'll see them. There is also an old thread on here from RFrink.

Totally off topic - I became partial to Butlers early in my Cobra research days so I checked out your gallery. Your car is AMAZING!! Is there a thread covering the build or discussing it in detail? I would love to know more about it!

Having had my car for a while now I have found that the windwings and the windshield angle do the most for controlling the wind. My wings are substantially larger and follow the contour of the body. I found that the wind coming from the bottom of the wing over the top of the door is the biggest "blower". The wind coming from the back in my car ..without rollbar or webbing is absolutely livable

Great idea, I'll check out the wind the next time out.
The biggest problem for me is my ball cap must be on tight when passing a big rig or it blows off (man that tight hat gives me a headake).
Now the next biggest problem is...Do you want to go in the Cobra dear ? Yes...no complaining period!. No....See ya when I get back.
Very basic approach to the problem, here in the desert it's more about the heat...wear a hat.

Wearing the cap backward also give it some more aerodynamic effect.
may even let you look cool...

When she starts to complain about the wind, I tell her just to lay her head in my lap.
That usually shuts her up!
