I spoke to David again this morning and he was called to the tower (thats when he called me and thought he was getting tossed out) but as it turns out they asked him to come to the control room to give him a trophy for last years Run and Gun. They actually congratulated him on his time and he ran again, posting 9.75! This guy is a great driver who set a personal best during the last night of the season. Save the preaching about all these law breakers for the Model "A" forum and tip your hat to a guy who is getting it done!
Well said!!!

Being new to the hobby and this kind of car. I look forward to seeing what my car can do. At this point I have no clue what to expect, if by chance it makes it past certain barriers. I would be more than happy to be escorted off the track and then make whatever modifications needed to run again.

I wish David the best and I think it's wonderful that he broke the 10-second barrier with a Cobra. He's obviously a very talented driver as you are Dean.

Don't mean to pee on anyone's parade. Sometimes, I just seem to see things from a different perspective.

Thumbs up

I will never understand why it's OK for a guy in a leather suit on a crotch rocket can post 140 plus speeds but do it on 4 wheels and you're a huge risk.

Dave is cool. He loves his Cobra. When we were all at his business for the lunch he invited us to, I asked him a question. I asked if he could keep only one of these 200 cars in his place which would it be. He said without hesitation MY COBRA!.
Dave Congratulations and Thanks again for Putting up Mike's Cowboy collection.

Cheers,
Hersh

Well said Hersh! Just goes to show that common sense is actually quite uncommon!

Those pesky rules, regulations and laws are arbitrary... Someone makes them up, doesn't make them right. Most of the time it's just about the money when you break them.

In any case, life is terminal 100% of the time. If I could chose when and where to go out I think that would be preferable to spending 5 years in bed drooling on my stained sheets. I look at life as being an adventure, not a scary place where I'm afraid to scuff my knee. Most regrets are from what you didn't do, not from what you did.

Each to their own. I won't tell you what to do, and I'd expect the same from everyone else...

Default Talk to Mark Williams

Hotfingrs Jack If you talk to Mark Willaims they will set you up with a set of axles that you will not break. I don't know what IRS you are using but if you go to a Quickchange or a Franklin, good for 800/750 HP and Torque. Endless gears changes too. The older vette rears are now 7.50 legal in NHRA with a custom 12 bolt setup inside the case. Have heard there is no problems but needs the stub shafts checked every 50 runs for twisting. Jag rearend is good to 600 hp + after some work with cap girdle and 30 spline axles.

Hope Dave puts a better rollbar or cage in the car if he is going to do this time and speed. Rick L

Rick
I'm running a C4 Corvette dana 44 setup. I think I've broken 3 half shafts in the last 2 summers. The U joints hold, but I break the ends off the shaft. I've also twisted the stub axles in half. Of course the 100+ dry hops a couple of weeks earlier at the Woodward Dream Cruise probably didn't help matters. I'll be building an 8.8 and installing it this winter.

I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do. I only had an opinion about operating within the track rules. I'm not trying to take away the adventure. I think it's great that you guys have the knowledge, ability, talent and "cajones" to travel that fast.

Almost every Sunday, I play a sport in a competitive atmosphere. I've had at least a couple instances where body parts or life have been perilously close to harm, so I totally understand attempting to live life as an adventure.

Having said that, I do my best to play by the rules, even though I still vehemently argue with the referees about those "pesky" offside calls.

Jack,
I know how you got into the 9 second time slot and without the power adders of NOS, you are running with Chevy power

Yep, instead of the danger of banging gears and going fender-to-fender on Sundays, I like the danger of going shoulder-to-shoulder and banging bodies. I've been very fortunate on a couple occasions.

I've thought about taking the Cobra, but anytime I leave it unattended, it tends to draw a lot of attention. Plus, I would hate for a ball to hit it. Even with all the tall fences, they sometimes tend to hit cars.

You're right. Golf is much more manly.

Rugby? No, thanks, I like my teeth very much. Thank you.

Edit: Sorry Dean for taking the thread "off track."

Speaking of David's running the 9s... Did David Salkowski ever get a 9sec timeslip? His incredible black ERA with the 5 speed G Force trans ran 10.0 aspirated about 5 or 6 years ago, and remains my favourite ever Cobra.

I think I remember hearing on here he did it. I haven't been out for two years so no improvements lately. I have made a number of changes that should help quite a lot and can't wait to try them out. Tighter converter, higher gears, 120 more hp in the engine, and 100 more hp in each stage of nitrous.

Higher insurance rates?!?!? Run, Chicken Little, run!!! The sky is falling!!! We're doomed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That always cracks me up when someone automatically assumes the worst, and has to make sure they wag a finger of disapproval. I'm thinking the guy probably doesn't care what anyone thinks, and frankly, that's not the point. The point here is he has done an amazing thing that few people could ever do. I guess it's like a lot of things these days; If you understand, no explaination is necessary. If you don't understand, no explaination is possible.

Why don't we just try to stay positive, and keep the negative comments to ourselves?

Sorry for the rant...

Eric
