My understanding is they all had flathead Brass Screws. I have real true original 289 Chassis manual that I obtained from an original owner that has them. Were the 427 Books different?

Sure, but will it happen? Panavia - happy to be a contributor to that project....As for the original manual, no way I would pay $750 for it, even if its a collectors item. I would probably feel differently if I had an original car, and not just a real one.

I bought one just like that one for $45.00.

Both of them are repros.

Where'd you get the repro? That'd be fun to have until Panavia can develop a proper manual?

Found it online at some book store website. Took a lot of searching, but finally found one.

Good luck in your search.

I have an original 289 manual but mine has flat aluminum screws. I know mine is original because like yours, it was given to me by the former owner of an original 289.

They now only have the 289 manuals, but it does look the same.

BigRed- I also have the 427 manual from Finishline, and you're right - it looks just like this one. The book is supposed to be, what, about 45 years old......and the screws still look brand new! lol

Not even an oily fingerprint on the cover. Hmmm.
Sure would like to see more pics.

I'm going out on a limb and saying BS on this one.

I have one given to me from an original 427 Cobra owner back in 1985, signed by CS, and looks just like this one on ebay. I also have a reproduction 427 manual which is similar, but smaller in size. I would ask who the publisher was on the back page. There's your answer.

It would be nice to have a reprint of this to start from, but @ $750 holy cow batman.

-- I am starting from scratch on the 4xxx manual and so far nothing makes sense, and after discussions with 3 other CSX 4xxx owners this is going nowhere fast.

The problem being that there are no real standardizations in CSX 4000 land ( now 6000 land)

There are differences in 4000/6000 cars based on being from HST or HiTek or LV builds.

I will keep plugging away, but recently I had a setback with the car -- 3 fold -

1. -- in order for me to be able to drive it ( pretty much at all) I will need to have the foot boxes re-carved and moved. / IE Cutting frame and moving pedals. -- I am not crazy about this. --I did my seat trick (de stuffed to 1" foam, removed rails) and it is all but hopeless --

So Bob, Troy and I set about measuring the passenger compartments and foot-well/seating areas and the 4000 is significantly smaller on the inside than the SPF.
so if you are over 6'2" and over 17-18 stone in weight, this will be tough fit.

2. I cant use the Shelby Heads with my 428. -- the valves at their angles wont clear the deck surface of the block without significant notching of the bores ( I am not crazy about this either)

3. Transmission fit issue -- I cant use a T56 in the Shelby tunnel, and I have had another CSX owner mention an issue with the Tremec TKO fit that I have to double check what will (actually) fit.

so right now -- I am trying to regroup and figure out next steps.

(sigh_)

Steve - A few comments below.

--Several owners have referenced in this thread that they have repro manuals (which I don't think are available anymore). Maybe one of them can copy one for you and mail you a copy to use for a basis for an updated manual. I would do it if I had one......

There are differences in 4000/6000 cars based on being from HST or HiTek or LV builds.

--If you need any help from some of us that have cars from different build periods, let us know and we will try to help in any way that we can with pics, etc. I have 6022 and will gladly spend a few hours shooting photos of certain parts if that would be helpful at some point.

so if you are over 6'2" and over 17-18 stone in weight, this will be tough fit.

I am 6'2", 190 and I fit in my CSX with the rails in place and the seat all the way back. It did help to reverse the steering column bracket and push the steering wheel all the way up though.

3. Transmission fit issue -- I cant use a T56 in the Shelby tunnel, and I have had another CSX owner mention an issue with the Tremec TKO fit that I have to double check what will (actually) fit.

I have a TKO 600 in my car and it fits fine. I think its the standard choice for these cars if they don't have top loaders.
