Default How Many Turns With Your Rack

Went out to warm the tires today. The FE supplied ample torque with a spirited low speed turn. The cold rears kicked out, my eyes widened and the hands and arms went to work! WOW! SURVIVED!

So this brings me to thinking maybe I could use a rack that works a little faster. Mine takes four turns lock to lock. Thinking a 3.5 may be a better choice? Any input would be appreciated.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Ralphy

Hey Ralphy,
I may be mistaken but it seems mine takes less than one turn? I really don't know, just guessing. I do have the power steering from I don't know where but I do know it was $3500 plus with no labor, ridiculous. But I never said I was sharp. Cliff

I'm using an early MGB rack which is essentially the same as used in OEM Cobra except the input shaft was longer to start with. I think it's about 1 3/4 turns lock to lock.

Less than 1 turn to go from full left to full right?

I would be really surprised.

Ok, I'm with Rick, 1 3/4 turns lock to lock. Cliff

Thanks for the responses guys. Seems 4 is out. I have a Mustang II rack, it seems I saw a 3.5 turn somewhere. The Flaming River MGB Cobra is listed at 3 turns. Whatever, it's less then 4. I have not looked at any power racks.

Remember that there is allways a trade off. Without power steering a quick ratio will be tough at low speeds and parking. I have a non power assist quick ratio steering and parking garages and parking are a test of my current upper body strength. I beleive that power steering takes away feel. damed if you do and dammed if you don't. Fat tires, heavey engine, all take their toll.
