Default WHO SAW THE DAYTONA SHOW ON HD theater last night?

Hi
Manny here from carfilms.com

we started work on the historical footage for Americas Greatest Race Cars back in march just saw the final edit last night i thought it was great!

the show last night actually made history in many ways!

That was the first automotive documentary that broadcast historic footage in real HD 1080p ( for you video geeks)
the b-roll footage of the Daytonas and cobras was restored and tranfers from the original negatives of several films that had been lost for years.
the source films are American Challeng, Shelby goes racing with Ford and wonderful World of Wheels (you can get the DVD's at www.carfilms.com)
we own the original elements of these films and had them tranferd at one of the top post houses in hollywood for the show
hope you enjoyed the show

I really enjoyed it too. Getting to hear from the actual people made all the difference.

I saw it Sunday night. Didn't the car sell in the Mecum auction in California for $7.5 mil? Was that too recent to be put into the final edit? All in all it was a great piece of work on a great effort by "California hotrodders". It also showed how much BS and politics there was (and is) in auto racing. I hope the Ferrari people tuned in and saw that their demi-god (Enzo) really did have feet of clay.

Saw it last night what a great peace of history.
Did I miss something I don't understand why they stopped going forward with the Daytona. Was the GT 40 already out performing the Daytona?

I think Ford was financing the Daytona. Ford then wanted to promote the GT and dropped funding for the Daytona. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Cool "We got a rocket here"

Sparky69:
That was an awesome production. It had several clips that I saw from the Daytona Coupe presentation at SAAC 32, and from the Cobra Ferrari Wars, a spirit level film, written, produced and directed by Richard Symons.
It's a shame there wasn't more film footage preserved over the years from that era.

Thanks for posting the schedule.

The show was great! Hopefully it will be released as a DVD...with a bunch of extras that ended up on the cutting room floor.

I bet there's some good extended footage of the interviews.

But why just shut down a car that was dominating the track?

Because it was a GT and wasn't going to outrun the prototypes. Who know, the Super Coupe may have had a chance but that (427s) was going to come to an end soon as well.

When Ford was shafted by Ferrari, the corporate focus turned to the GT 40, which was under development. 1964 & 1965 were the spotlight years for the Daytona, while the GT 40 was being built. In 1966-67-68-69, the Ford GT 40 dominated the GT class.
The Daytona, developed and built, tested, refined, raced and won the FIA world championship...all within a two year span...Pretty impressive accomplishment for a small group of Hot Rodder's!

Some more background on the show. You'll see my name listed in the credits as the Story Consultant so I was involved with the show from conception to final version. We shot the coupe at the IMS Studios in Indianapolis last summer. A great deal of effort was put into the studio shoot in terms of lighting and camera configuration to take fullest advantage of the HD technology.

I got the chance to spend a lot of time talking to Brock, Bondurant, and Friedman and the great stories they shared when the cameras weren't rolling were priceless, but we didn't have the time to include them all in the program. Each of them have many fond memories of the Shelby Era but have some long-standing issues which is understandable when you consider the pride, egos, and headstrong personalities involved.

Having the chance to work on this project was a thrill since this car and these men were icons to me when I got hooked on the Cobra as a teenager. I got to sit in the car, as well, and that was a goosebumper. I'm very glad the response to the show was so positive because for the production team, this was a story we really felt needed to be told with honesty and respect. And I think Sam Posey's voice-over was the icing on the cake, too.
