I hope they all show up as usual only with their daily drivers and dare the mall to try and make them leave.

It's never ending,a restriction here, a law there, next thing it will piss someone off because nice looking cars will be considered distractions, out on the open roads.Jealous, rearing it's ugly head!

To be fair, there was a growing audience standing along the road adjacent to the strip mall entrance that were cheering on cars to do burn outs up the street. Being the obliging soles that us car buffs are . . . .
Then the police got involved and were sympathetic to the mall owners.
It's unfortunate because this meet drew some very high-end and interesting cars. Jay Leno frequented the meet with something interesting from his garage, CSX 2001 was there once or twice and not unusual to see an Enzo, Scuderia 16s, Carrera GT's, a Stryker and a boatload of Lambos from mild to wild.

Ah. Sounds like a Calvin and Hobbes excuse - "I wasn't doing ANYTHING!... except running down the street throwing it in the air..."

Maybe when the mall goes out of business, a race track will suddenly be built. Remember, what comes around goes around.

Not likely with the property value in that area. Did you know you can't smoke in public in Calabasas? Might lend a little influence to the actions above?

There's an impromptu weekly car show that began in Santa Clara about 4 years. Over the years, the show has grown and now attracts upwards of 150 cars. The show is supported by the merchants (it's my understanding that they cover the annual permit fees) and the City Council approved a permit through 2013. Logical approach, good for business, everyone is happy.

Local Merchants Show Support; Some Neighbors Unhappy With Car Shows
http://www.santaclaraweekly.com/1398.html (second article)

"Richard Holder, co-owner of Country Inn Café is just one of the many merchants who supports the weekly car gathering. In addition to Holder’s long-established Country Inn Café, Boston Market, Subway, Baskin Robbins and the Portugese Bakery are all proponents of the get-together, citing that the get-together drives traffic into their venues, especially on Wednesday evenings.

Alex Byer, of Byer Properties based in San Francisco, owner of the 100,000-plus square-foot parking lot where the gathering takes place, has given his blessing to the gathering as well, stating that the gathering benefits merchants in the Mervyn’s Shopping Center."

The picture is of the NEW get-together on Plummer and Tampa on Sunday mornings. Look closely...MOST of the cars parked are in one-and-a-half spaces. For some reason, someone wanted the cars parked every one-and-a-half spaces; the parking lot is BIG, and I would not have objected to parking in ONE space.
We leave a whole SECTION of the parking lot free for the people who want to use the Western Bagel/Starbucks/Jamba Juice, but that section is NOT in the picture. Our cars are parked in the area diagonally away from the shops.

There has to be another business that could profit from the car enthusiest patronage. I think of all the tenderloin and burger joints that I have frequented. And another note, a lot of business are located on lots too small to accomadate the normal amount of patron cars that would be expected. I remember my grandmother complainingt hat they were painting the parking place stripes closer together at the mall (forty years ago). It is a fact that anything larger than a compact car has trouble negeotiating the the narrow spaces and lanes of most parking lots. We have a F250 and an Excursion. The open spaces ajoining our choosen spot are the descision maker so you can get in and out. And heaven help us if someone doesn't center their car in their parking spot , that throw everything off. Someday soon a new sort of business will apear, that is glad to see customers and have larger parking spots better designed lanes with radiused corners. All thing considered, being able to get in and out with some ease will be considered a value.

I am floored at the Strip Mall in this case OMFG.

I was trying to look up their property holdings so one could organize an online boycott directory of sorts. --

we should find the phone numbers for these guys and let them know they are ticking off a lot of husbands who have wives in caravans and we care where they shop.

Or get an email to the owner and have all of us send him emails with our opinions on his ludicrous and probably illegal policy.

"a restraining order against the motorists, listed anonymously as John Does 1-500."

So does that mean if they get 501 people to show up the last guy can get in?

Or if a woman drives. That would not be a John Doe, but a Jane.

We have lost a couple of cruise-in sites here due to kids with the ricers doing
burnouts on the street - some weren't even a part of it, so Home Depot said
no mais in Kapolei. That happened right after they closed the race track down which was about 4 miles down the road. The restaurants really appreciate
the added business - and so far peer pressure has kept some in line.

I'd bet a couple of Cobras could chase down and box a ricer any day. Are there any nice cliffs near the site?

I use to live just up the road from the El Camino Center. That was back in the early 70's. Just to clarify that Calabasas boundry is about 1/4 mile to the west. That center is actually in Woodland Hills. Not that this information changes anything. I was a relative newcomer to the Sunday morning gathering and really enjoyed the mixture of people and cars. The close proximity to the many canyon roads was a big plus. It's a shame it had to stop. I think if the event was better organized or managed, designating a part of the lot that we could gather in without disrupting the parking flow, it could have worked and everyone ( stores and cars guys) would be happy. I was there twice on the last Sunday of the month and one time there were cars parked everywhere occupying spaces and fire lanes for atleats the whole southern half of the lot with overflow parking in the outskirts down by the CVS. The second time there was not nearly the same crowd. But you had to get there at 6:30am to get a preferred spot and most were leaving by 10:30am. I wonder if the guy driving the Bugatti Veyron was one of the center's owner? It was fun while it lasted. NO LOITERING, BICYCLES, SKATEBOARDS OR CLASSIC CARS!
