Old Fuel: Suggestions?
I find myself with 12-14 gallons of 76 premium 101 octane gas sitting in my fuel cell for the past approx 10-11 months. It hasn't been mixed with any newer fuel since then. Any thoughts or suggestions? I guess I'm a little worried about running it through the engine after sitting so long. I have a 42 gal Fuel Safe fuel cell in the car, twin electric pumps and the mechanical pump feeding a Holley 850.

Did you use a fuel stablizer?
Bernica If you used stablizer I would still remove all the fuel and put 15-20 gallons of new in the car and add about 2-2.5 gallons of the old stuff and use it up. You could also do the same thing with adding it to the daily driver until used up. I would only use a gallon in the daily driver. I have left gas in the car for a year and still have it run. It does smell bad. The other thing is to just go to a recycling center with the old gas and let them get rid of it. Soneone will fill there tank with it for sure. Rick L. Does your car require 101 octane?? 
If so I'd remove it and run it in your daily driver then add new 101 to the Cobra to be safe....IF it requires 101 octane?? 
From now on add Stabil as Rick mentioned!!  |

i've been purging 10 gallons of 110 leaded all summer, i add a tad to the tractor when i fill it up and give some to the neighbor to add to his tractor, the smell of the racing fuel as i cut grass gives me a good feeling...

I've been running some old VP U-4.2 in my mower, snowblower, & weed wacker. There's nothing like the smell of $17/gal race fuel when doing yard work... I'll even do a little rev-tuning once in a while just to enjoy the wonderful smell.

Thanks all. Yes, the car likes the 101 fuel. It's just over 11:1 compression. The 101 runs around $7-7.50/gal around here. I guess I'll be running a hose from the fuel pumps today and giving my daily driver an early Christmas present. Should I be worried about the old fuel sitting in the carb for that long?

Thought some might find this interesting.....
The jug on the left is fresh 76 101 octane, the one on the right is same stuff only about 11 months old. A definite difference!!!

I wouldn't worry about what''s in the carb.....if it's like mine it has evaporated over time!!!  If not it will be consumed by the engine very quickly after you start it!! |
