Default What makes a perfect Cobra event

Some of you know that Clois and I are the organizers for Run and Gun. We were wondering what all of you look for in an event? Take a second a share some thoughts on what you have enjoyed about the big multi-day event you have attended in the past. We don't care if it is track time, car shows, cruises, drinking "soft drinks" with your friends or doing burn outs. please share your thoughts. Run and Gun is changing and we want to make sure it is heading in the right direction.

Been to more than a few events over the years...various SAACs and Flings as well as regional stuff.

The very best events I have attended were the various Bashes in Reno-Sparks which were ramrodded by Duane Cooney. The CH1s have been damn near perfect as well.

The reason: KISS

When you start trying to micro-manage every damn minute of the day(s), it becomes more like work trying to keep up with the schedule/route, etc.

Some of the best times have been at the motel parking lots at the early Flings, and the casino parking garage at the Bashes. Not to say that cruises or track events aren't a big part of the fun...they just need to be balanced with some free time.

If it wasnt for the Friendly competition it would be like any other track day Im not ther to cruz around the track playing with my shifter . I came to hang it out on the edge, and let the cards fall were they may the best guy out ther Wins every event we do during the year is geared to make us better for RunNGun.Its just a cool way to do an event.Three events scoring points for each to determin class and overall ranks,The new Barrel run was cool as well as the autocross - rain. And allways tons of track time. The friends we make along the way is like icing on the cakeWe could throw in Naked girls for corner workers on the Roadcorse, then we can pick eye candy verses better lap times...lol. You guys are doing a great job and im proud to call you friends...

After reading this and the other replys I also thought of what made a bad car show event and have to agree with the previous comments after reflecting. It really was the more simple stuff that makes it good/bad. Everyone who comes is willing to make it work, have a great time and are used to conditions that were less than perfect. Some of the worse times I have had, where I just left early, was in situations where there were no restrooms, no place to eat, sit, rest, relax, socilaize etc. - or just some hardcore inflexible, impractical rules and regulations. No parking, no sitting, no drinking, terrible environment.

These are all real simple things but are the ones keeping the best of times from the times you just wish you would have done something else.

I agree that the "hanging around" is the big draw for the events. If the hanging out was the main event and the track time and maybe a cruise were the secondary stuff, how far would you drive for 2 or 3 days of hanging with cobra guys? I have been to the London show and had a blast. I have been to many track events and had a blast as well. That's why I was wondering what the perfect combination might be.

The girls (in the 18 to 20 range in a foam pit with nothing but a smile) is probably not going to happen. That is reserved for the NOPI guys. Besides, I've seen most of you guys. I think it will pose a health risk!

A recent cruise we had in NW Arkansas was received very well by all of those who went. There was a plan, and then there was what actually happened. Of course, this was a two day cruise event with an overall general plan and not a track event, so the "schedule" was loose. Here is my wish list (NOT including more track time, that's a given)

1) If there is going to be a PRO driver/instructor, I would like to have on the track instruction. If it cannot be done in my car on an individual basis, maybe have a "supervan" to carry multiple passengers (ala Richard Petty driving experience) to "drive" the track and show actual braking/acceleration zones

2) With the amount of people available and attending, I wish there was a way to easily check adjustments on my car, e.g.: corner weight, brake bias, tires etc...

3) Video - Wondering if there would be a way to video a few laps of each driver then have their laps critiqued by the Pro's.

4) Actual race - Any way the Spec Racers could be asked to attend to have a 10 lap race or something?

5) Participant car show - I realize this didn't quite work out in 2008, but a change could be to have it after a track day. I found that I walked the garage quite a bit talking to each driver about their cars and really enjoyed the conversations and learning more about the cars on the track.

The only problem with all my ideas is they all require add'l time I guess. HTH

Tim

For those of us that have never attended a Run-N-Gun event what have you done
in the past? and how/why should/ could things be different/better than previous
events?
3 days is a lot of time to fill....raceing/car show/?????
trophies for the raceing/car show a 50/50 raffle?
restrooms/shade/food and drink vendors?????
a guest club or manufacturer?????or both????
what will fill the bill and make people want to come next year?????
