Default Mustang II Spring Replacement

Mustang II springs.. I have a CR with a 460. It sits a little low in the front. depending upon money, I am thinking about replacing the springs or maybe going with coil overs. Doers anybody have experience with what is the correct spring rate for this setup?
Thanks

the v6 a/c Mustang 2 spring is the heavy duty one they are under $100 bucks at NAPA.
coil overs could run in the $400 buck range or more.........

If you decide to go with coil overs, call the company you get them from and tell them what they will be used on and how it will be used and they will tell you the best spring rates for them. I used QA-1s on my Cobra but it had a stroker in it and never weighed as much as yours does. However they did recommend that since I was driving it hard on the track to go with a stronger spring than if I was just using it as a cruiser. As stated the coil over are more expensive and if you don't race the car probably aren't worth the extra money. But they do make it easy to adjust ride height and rebound.

HP,
My CR has a 390fe and the front springs were too soft and the front end sat low and on dips or bumps in the road the tires would rub inside the fenders. I switched out the stock parts and upgraded to tubular upper and lower A-arms and coil overs. Huge improvement in ride height (now adjustable) and handling rough spots in the road. As I recall they were in the 600lb range but I would do what Ron61 said. Sounds like the best way to get the right equipment. Good luck!

John

I am running tubular control arms and coilovers. Not sure of the size of the springs though I just went with what CR recomended. It rides like a tank. I need to get with Pro-Shocks and see what was ordered by CR and then see what they recomend. Heck, I might just call them right now.

I am running a 351W. Not sure what the weight differance between it and a 460/390 is.

Terry,

The weight difference can vary a huge amount depending on how much aluminum they use in the 390/460. I had a 351w stroked to 418 with all aluminum heads and stuff and a friend of mine had a 429 that only had an aluminum intake and his car weighed a lot more than mine.

I believe a stock 429 is about 100lbs heavier than a stock FE.......
but i have also been told that an FE with alum. heads and intake
weighs less that a stock SBC........
but i dont know how true that is.........
